Great to see the fourth line on the PP.

So happy the Sens got rid of Gus especially when Sens fans get to become more familiar with Talbot. They're going to love him just like the Edmonton fan base loved him and were so sorry to see him go.

By the way I need to post a sarcasm alert.

when OTT plays bottom feeders they win, when OTT plays a actual quality team they get their asses handed to them.

I agree that it's a team effort smelling up the joint this afternoon but how many times have I heard "DeBrincat fans on the puck" by announcers all year this year?

At least the Kastelec line gave them some life.

Actually it's 14-15-2 if you look at all the games and not just that bit that looks good.

You also forgot to mention how the heroic DeBrincat battled ferociously like the lion he is and almost single handedly carried the team back into the fray and victory. (attn: sarcasm alert! - I have to do this otherwise there actually are some people who would take my post at face value.)

There are several people posting here that are vested in the team doing poorly. They feel the need to be right at any cost and they have a strong desire for the coach and a few select players to falter as much as possible. The only time you hear much is when they can come in and complain about something or someone.

Such a sad existence.

Not nearly as many times as I’ve heard, “Dumba fans on the puck.”

After this little run the Sens have been on I've started hearing more and more of the usual Sens pundits actually start to fantasize about how good the team is. They are delusional!

Outside of Pinto and Kastelec the team doesn't have a bottom 6 without which no team is going anywhere.

They don't have a top 4 RD and they don't have Zub signed which if it doesn't get done would leave them with nothing on the right side. Their third pairing is questionable at best.

They think they have a starter in Talbot but are eventually going to find out how much of a soul killer he can be with his inconsistent play and at least one really bad goal every game.

They are going to need to find a top six LW around the 5 million mark to replace DeBrincat who is a franchise disaster just waiting to happen. I can't believe how badly so many Sens fans want to believe in this player and I worry that Dorion will actually get the go ahead to sign him for 9 million and then low ball Pinto, Zub and Sanderson because they can't afford to pay them; and that's not even mentioning paying an actual number one goalie or bottom six guys that can actually play hockey. This team can not afford a 9 million dollar winger if they plan to seriously compete.

There are those who may accuse me of being too pessimistic but I would remind them that for the past 2 or 3 years I have often posted how I believe the team has the makings of a multiple Cup winner and a perennial serious contender if they show some patience, make opportune acquisitions without squandering assets (Giroux is a good example), develop their young prospects and continue to draft well.

It's no secret that I have absolutely zero faith in Dorion's ability to not make a mess of things as he has done so often in the past. Then there's Smith who I don't think is the best coach for this team or even if he's an actual NHL coach.

He plays his favourites and they love him because they get to do what they like on the ice without ever facing any consequences. There's a reason Tkachuk likes to hang out on the opposing blueline waiting for the stretch pass and that's because he can't get the puck out of his own end or through the neutral zone to save his life.

Anyway like I said the potential is still there, if less than it was, but somebody needs to forbid Dorion from making any significant moves and we have to hope his successor will be chosen wisely.

It is not just hockey. A lot of sports commentary is becoming more and more influenced by the ever growing perspective of a gambler's outlook. For gamblers, outcomes are always more important than visual performance or the overall entertainment value of the event.

A gambler suffers the curse of inner deadness. Sort of a grand despair, an absence of emotional energy. Winning merely provides a momentary relief from this default emotion (being a loser). Think of the gambler as always "chasing" the excitement of wanting to be right merely to escape the inner feeling of being wrong (a loser). It gets really complicated when you add in the element of risk. The gambler gets the most emotional reward when they emotionally invest in outcomes that are the highest risk. But, of course, higher risk increases the probability of losing and a return to the loser feelings.

It does not matter the Sens have had a great 10 game run. The only result that matters is the last outcome which confirmed the feelings of inadequacy. The gambler needs to blame (project) their pain onto a cause for their feelings.

I thought the Sens were the lesser team playing against the Wild, a team which is playing as well as anyone in the NHL.

But, it was hard to get into the game. Not much fan energy remaining after having watched Argentina/France.

It is good to see that over the past month or so, the team has played to the level expected of them going into the season - not quite a playoff team but competitive. There have been some positive developments that I noted:
1. Thomas Chabot's play and offence has significantly improved from the start of the season, likely due to his minutes averaging under 25 minutes.
2. Goaltending is generally good with both Talbot and Forsberg in the rotation.
3. Defensive zone coverage has improved and Zaitsev has been decent since his return.
4. Batherson is starting to play closer to the level he was at last season prior to his injury.

Morning gents - fun question:

What do the Ottawa Senators need to happen to become true cup contenders from 2024-2030?

You need to stop channeling your inner loser, Spatso. From the 4:58 mark of the third period until the 18:20 mark of the third period the Sens outscored the Wild 2 to 0 and looked like they carried the play.

Sorry to hear about your gambling problem. You really need to seek help with all your feelings of inadequacy, inner deadness, pain and despair. There must be people around you that would support you and tell you that you're not the loser you think you are.

So sad!

If the Sens went 82-0 and Zaitsev won the Norris, maybe I could be happy!

The Defense is fine.
Not sure why the hate on Lassi but I think he's a quality D man who gets/got zero chance.

The negativity on the team after poor efforts comes from the amount in cash dollars players are paid to play.

Please, someone break it down to "per game $$" and then ask the same question about how people can be so negative. Results driven BUSINESS. Not sport. This isn't amateur sport. This is business. Name me any other business where a 9 million a year executive blows a single business meeting and continues to be employed without some serious reprimand or loss of employment.

Big Bottom 6 wingers who can skate and hit and chip in on scoreboard
Better Defense Structure with 2 stay home Defenseman to play bottom pair
I really believe Chabot Zub Sanderson JBD can be top 4 D with a good Defense system

Btw let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself last time Sens we’re on winning streak Minnesota came in and beat them and Ottawa went on and lost 7 straight games 🫣😬

The Sens were in tough for yesterday’s game. Afternoon games are difficult enough for players, let alone back-to-back afternoon games with travel overnight. If folks expected a sharp game from the players, you haven’t watched enough afternoon hockey games in your lifetime. Considering that and the fact the Wild are a more legitimate team than the Ducks, Habs, and Wings, I felt they didn’t look terrible. This was not a game where I felt compelled to my thoughts on potential changes.

One of Thomson or JBD needs to become a legit top 4 dman.

They need to aquire through development or trade a real number 1 goalie. Not neccearily elite, but reliable.

add a very solid RHD with size/snarl, keep Zub
solid #1 goaltender
4 better bottom 6 forwards with more size/toughness - to complement Pinto/Kastelic
more size/snarl in bottom 2D
new coaching staff

Minnesota is a good team to emulate. They have a world class player in Kaprizov, decent offensive depth, high quality D and size/toughness throughout the lineup. They just need more scoring.

Agree 100% with the D assessment, bang on.
Yes - a true #1 goalie is needed and needed for the long term
Ridly Grieg will be a welcome addition to that bottom 6. So should Tyler Boucher. Not overly worried but it's a good point

The Minn comparison concerns me because they were a great team but hardly TRUE contenders. I like the Winnipeg or Colorado comparison but that would require Norris, Stutzle, and Sanderson to take great strides and stay healthy. These players are X factors for sure.

Of course there's a lot to do there to reach the level of Mackinnon + Makar, or even Scheifele + Byfuglien from years ago
