This is really mind boggling. The guy had three 40 point seasons in Buffalo and yet he seems to have totally lost the offensive side of his game between Buffalo and Philly. For a team this offensively challenged it sure would help if he could contribute some.
- Phillywhiteout

Nobody in the Flyers FO or coaching staff values offense. Been that way since management only gave Lavy pylon defensemen for his system that required puckmovers. Our FO and coaching staff haven’t been in sync since.

What needs to happen is we need a coach who uses a modern approach to how the game is currently played with a GM who gives him players that have traits that fit in that modern approach.

Speed, possession, a couple snipers and a good goalie. How hard is it to see the obvious?

So Hayes sucks, can’t keep up and someone will take him and his contract on?

3 more years at 3.5

- wcorvette

Yes, that is the problem the Flyers have.

I notice what you said. Ristolainen made a few good plays last night but overall, he was not good. Nobody really was with the exception of Hart. He was the entire team last night.
- MJL

Hart was great last night, mind blowing actually. I love TK though, he is fun to watch and to root for.

it seems whenever a player has a bad game or is benched. The pet phrase is that he can't keep up. It really had nothing to do with not being able to keep up. It had to do with playing like crap. The issue is so did the rest of the team. So Tortorella tries to single out a vet player to send a message. It's archaic bush league stuff and it's not going to work. This team plays as hard as it can. It's just not very good. Effort is not the issue. Talent is.
- MJL

Hayes never really wanted to be here. The only reason he came here was because the Flyers vastly overpaid him.

He said as much before he signed.

The guy plays half the time like he truly meant it.

Hayes at his best is a below average skater. The Devils are a young, fast team that plays the game fast. Last night Hayes literally looked like a white pilon in the middle of the ice. He didn't have it last night and it was costing his line mates, so I was happy to see Hayes parked in the 3rd. I don't think Torts is sending a message, I really don't. I just think he is trying to win a game and trying to play the best players he has in the situation. I agree with you, there is a serious lack of talent on this team, and Torts has acknowledged this multiple times already, so he has to play the best of what he has.

Only way Hayes gets moved is if a team that thinks they can win it has injuries and just recently had a labatomy, or CF was fired and was recently hired on the team that traded for Hayes.

Don’t get me wrong, at his best Hayes is a good 2nd-3rd line player, he has value, just not 3 years of it

The good news is maybe he will open to a trade. He's got 12 teams on his list, maybe he will open it up even more.

Laughton is a good 3rd line player, he is signed for $3M for 4 more years. Why wouldn't a team take Hayes for $3.5M x 3 years? He is not a terrible player, he is just not a Torts type of player and will just not do well here. I do believe his future in the NHL is at wing but his flexibility to play both wing and center is valuable to teams.

I'm sure he is willing to go, it is who would be willing to take him that is the problem.

There is no issue with Hayes skating. He just didn't play well like the rest of the team that was completely overmatched by a much better team. How does this perceived lack of skating figure into your plan for Boston to take Hayes in a trade to replace Bergeron or Krejci?

My plan is Don Sweeny will close his eyes, cover his ears, not listen to his pro scouts and trade for him anyway. What? What can go wrong?

Laughton is a good skater and brings a different skill set, but even Laughton is getting to a point where teams might not want the contract. You can find as much value in young players these days without the commitment.

What Hayes offers, with his contract will have very little demand, definitely a dump and in todays NHL, that is blood in the water and another colonoscopy for the Flyers.

Hayes would need to play lights out from here till the TDL, a team would need to have the right circumstance and be desperate.

Then I will root for him to play lights out the rest of the way. Even though every one on the planet who watches the Flyers can see Hayes is a liability, do you have confidence that Fletcher sees it this way? After all, with the win last night, the Flyers are only 10 points out of a playoff spot!

Hayes has lazy games where he just simply seems disinterested. He 100% deserved to be benched last night whether you think it's archaic or not. Yes, many other players didn't play well either, but his lazy/bad play stood out like a sore thumb.

Yeah that was my earlier comment that Hart is the only one who can ruin this season, Hart is the real deal in my opinion, one of a few silver linings, if he ever gets a team infront of him, he should be lights out. They need a few wins, I like beating the devils and it would be nice to beat the pens, then losing is fine. I would say they finish in the 8th range. I do think Cf, if the flyers continue the same, will sell. The biggest is JVR, hope he keeps going, I think he can play into getting a 2nd back, but he is playing really well, with this team who knows how long he can maintain. Hayes, hope for the miracle. If you have to keep him, hope he can be his best version, but they need to manage the rest of the cap and get down to just Hayes as a bad contract

It again makes me wonder that if everyone on the planet can see that Hayes is a liability, why you believe that Boston will take on the remaining term of Hayes contract in a salary retained deal. Simply based on the fact that Hayes grew up locally. 10 points out halfway through December is being eliminated from the playoffs.
