It's such a strange shift from when Hayes is being marketed so heavily, and the team loved putting out what a great locker room that was with all of his buddies together.
To now a year after 2 surgeries, and a death of his brother he is public enemy number one according to the team.
I am not a fan of Kevin Hayes the player, nor the contract but anyone that doesn't at least see the extreme shift is fooling themselves. Also makes one laugh to see how much power Torts apparently holds within the franchise after a few months. People really gobbled up that snake oil salesman routine this summer.
He's pushing for Briere because he thinks Danny is a brilliant mind? Or because he wants even more power over roster makeup. Ponder that for a second, it shouldn't take much longer.
Fletcher is a piece of trash as a GM, but people are in for a nice present when Torts has a lot of influence over the decision making of a team in 2023. - FlyerFan3260
Tortorella fits right in. An archaic dinosaur well past his prime. He was once great. A long, long time ago when effort and determination along with some talent was the game.

I thought Hayes would be apart of this team for the length of his contract. Now I wouldn't be shocked if he's dealt in the off season. |

I liked Sedlak's game. Thought he was one of more consistent forwards. - cdearth23
Sedlak was the best player out of him, Brown and McEwen.

How exactly is he taking heat off himself? If anything, torts has already exceeded expectations in the win loss column for the year. He’s playing with house money - ClaudeFather
Losing 17 games out of 20 is playing with house money?

He's very clearly put this on Chuck.
He's also more, and more willing to call out guys in the media.
Tortorella is a piece of poop head coach in 2022. Just give it time, you'll see it more clearly soon. - FlyerFan3260
You've hit the nail on the head here. Some are still fooled by the illusion.

He isn’t the slightest bit on the hot seat, not sure what else to say. This roster is pathetic, it has nothing to do with Torts. |

All of it is on chuck…I’m not some huge Torts fan but he’s gotten more wins than this roster should have, regardless of it being due to goaltending or not. - ClaudeFather
Hart has won them games. Nothing more than that.
They got a bit of a boost from a new HC like every team does. Let’s see how long his approach works before he’s tuned out.

Kevin Hayes is not the difference between losing and winning a hockey game - ClaudeFather
On this team, he could very well be. The leading scorer on an offensive challenged team. This benching will have long lasting effects and change the course of the franchise.

Very expensive in today's strapped salary cap world. And now his attitude problems spread out to the big hockey world. The scratch is a story on many hockey sites. |

Again, how is the heat off of Torts. This is Fletchers mess. Torts isn’t doing anything to take the heat off of him. That comment made no sense |

The timing for a guy like Torts was what's bad. Not that Torts himself is a bad coach. - Pelle31Forever
Tortorella is not a coach that can make a real difference. He believes too much in the old adages of being hard to play against and effort and determination make the difference. It doesn't because the other teams that are more talented and play a modern style of pressure fast hockey have the same level of effort and determination. He is nowhere near the class of the top coaches in the league and is an awful development coach. York is the prime example.

Didn't say that he was on the hot seat. The roster is pathetic, but he is not in any way part of the solution. As another poster said, he is a snake oil salesman. The game has passed him by.

My comments were stemming from someone saying torts was trying to take the heat off himself. It doesn’t matter who’s coaching, this roster is god awful and 90% of it won’t be around when this thing, if ever, gets turned around |

Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, and Michkov are tier 1. Smith and Yager, I need to learn more about. More dysfunction leads to better odds of acqiring tier 1 talent. Top of this draft is loaded. |

He is, which is why he overplays players like McEwen. He has been coaching the entire time for his legacy rather than for the Flyers future. Name one thing that he has improved as the Flyers coach to this point?

This is the second Flyers player who has quit under the Chucky the poopbag era.
Niskanen, now Sedlak.

I hate to tell you, no coach was coming in and playing a bunch of kids for development. Coaches coach for the now, regardless of what generic statement is fed to the media by the coach or management. |

His direct style in pressers are popular
not just among flyer fans. Tortorella and Gritty is what the hockey world likes about flyers now. Not the results or blocking hundred shots in every game. |

Not all coaches prioritize winning completely over player development. There is a balance. When you bring in someone like Torterella, who very well could be in his last coaching gig. It's going to be about his legacy. |

Wouldn't be difficult. Two out of the last 4 Flyers coaches did so. |
