Not all coaches prioritize winning completely over player development. There is a balance. When you bring in someone like Torterella, who very well could be in his last coaching gig. It's going to be about his legacy. - MJL

Like this flyers stint has any impact on his legacy. Taking over the laughing stock of the league, this wonât even be mentioned or they will say what was he thinking |

I thought Hayes would be apart of this team for the length of his contract. Now I wouldn't be shocked if he's dealt in the off season. - Aaron_85
Probably suffer a mysterious injury that canât be curedâŠ.and slide into LTIR. Can watch all the games with Atkinson and Coots from the press box or from his couch like Ellis does. |

Itâs just pure Franking nonsense. All coaches do so for the now. They give young players chances but itâs a short leash. You might see some extended time in March when a team is out of playoff race for good. Torts has given Morgan frost and Tippett significant time this year to sort through it and find their game as well. Along with Cates, you could even say heâs developing him haha |

Mediocre and picking around 20th overall, another successful game plan for this organization |

Youâre living in a fantasy land. All coaches coach for the now. - ClaudeFather
Do you mean they coach for the now as in "the current roster"? If so then I agree. You can't take a bunch of kids and have Stanley cup aspirations. Some coaches most definitely are better with young players and for good reason. They allow them to make mistakes and put them into situations to learn in, like protecting a lead in the final minute. |

It wasn't too long ago someone made a post similar to this about you and I told them to keep it on the hockey. You saw the post, commented on it so there no leash for you to do it to someone else. |

As in they are trying to win every game, and that most likely means playing a veteran over a prospect. The coaches job is not guaranteed, heâs not putting development over a better chance to win. You can argue if Macewan gives you a better chance to win over a Lacynzki, but thatâs not the point Iâm making |

I think youâre right but if you look at their situation realistically, most successful teams, Stanley Cup teams, had to go through some years of dysfunction and losing in order to get better, itâs the way the systems setup. Itâs just our time. We havenât had to go through a lot of this. Yes things are a mess but the teams current state should, not a guarantee, but should, help the future. One can only hope. |

If Coaches turned down every offer that wasnât good enough for them, bottom feeder teams wouldnât have coaches. |

True, which kinda lends itself into what Iâm saying. Great coaches will probably avoid a situation like whatâs going on here, other coaches, good coaches, just want in the league and wonât care. They just wanna coach at the highest level. |

Don't leave out Atkinson being placed on IR. Can't wait to hear the update from the used car salesman GM. |

They are trying to win every game I agree. However the development can happen and still try to win every game. I would venture that it depends on who has personnel decisions. Some coaches don't get that power. I remember it being a thing when Babcock came to Toronto that he had all of that power alone. It would suggest some coaches dont.
I do think Torts has that power here. I also find it odd Torts took this job but I guess noone else was calling and he wanted back in the league.
I dont think he's a good development coach. |
