He was the 1st line center by ice time his first two years here and had more points than Eichel over that span. Also had an All-Star game (not of the ZG variety). He was very good imo

The oft injured Jack Eichel is injured again tonight. Go figure. Just stealing $10 million a year.
Current figures for just Tuch and Jack heads up:

Tuch: 81gp, 27g, 41a
68 points .84 ppg
Jack: 61 gp, 27g, 27a
54 points .89 ppg

Sabres 6, Vegas 4

- lacaprup

To be fair, Eichel has been exactly what they hoped for this year. The team was humming before the injuries set in.

I see that Reinhart has turned around his season a bit. He has 11 and 11 in 32 games, which isn't bad considering how he started. Is he playing C this year? That's how he is listed on this page:

UFA most likely. Maybe a team friendly Jost deal, which means no QO (making him UFA). Let's see him a little longer before getting too attached. As we just saw, decent ones hit waivers frequently.

Just hope they don't go into the summer thinking it's Girgs for the 3rd straight year.

- Lunaion

I think they know that Girgs is much more effective on the wing. If he is playing C it is out of necessity because of injury.

Eichel found his next gear / speed again.

He never lost his hands or shot. Last year he looked like he was stuck in 4th gear and could never get faster.

This year he is flying

I am assuming Mittlestadt was a player the pens wanted badly during their draft talks. Jason swoops into buffalo and says we are taking mitts

At the time of the draft, it honestly wasn’t a bad pick. He came from high school hockey and dominated. His freshman year he was one of the best college players in the NCAA and was world juniors MVP in Buffalo no less.

So again great resume. Just hasn’t panned out yet.

It’s like UPL. After he was drafted. Puts up an amazing final year of juniors and world juniors gold (I think mvp also) and was the best goalie prospect for his age group.

So great resume

Then you get to the pros and the development hits a road block

I don't recall anyone being upset about the pick at the time. In fact, I would say that many of us were rooting for the pick. They guy was Mr. Hockey in Minnesota at the time, and things only looked better in the year after he was drafted. Him wanting to go pro before he was ready was really a detriment as he wasn't anywhere near ready.

This is just this year. It’s insane.

Is there a better goal this year than the first highlight against Tampa? (Any player)

The near goal in the second highlight would have topped it

Revisionist history is super fun. (Not you)

Like most back half top 10 picks there were some who liked it, some who didn’t and some who had no strong opinion either way (me)

Probably happens more than we hear, but funny that 2 bottom 8 team's GMs didn't listen to their scouting staff and it cost them their job and the team a better player and in Philly's case the best player in the draft.

Those are career highlight goals. Insane that they came in a quarter of a season.

The fact that the Sabres have him locked up for 7x7 is criminal.

the speed of his maturation was crazy.. That contract is going to be looking pretty damn good. didn't pretty much every nhl pundit say that contract was terrible for Buffalo?

Thompson is on pace for 66 goals and 129 points. He had a career-high 38 goals and 68 points in 78 games last season.

People compare his hands to Lemieux, I agree.

The way he makes moves in close on the goalie is very much like him. The long sweeping with his stick and cross body. Just like Lemieux.

They were supposed to be top6 on this team. They have been surpassed on the depth chart. Mitts has to play with elite players to produce, at this point he does not match with anyone on the bottom 6. Olofsson atleast has some chemistry with Asplund. Really do not see why Asplund Krebs Olofsson are not together to see if they could develop something. Krebs with Girgensons and Okposo has been decent but one couldn't score on a empty net and the other can't keep up anymore.
- Buff36

Both sides of this debate are right in a way
Olofsson HAS hurt us
AND
Olofsson HAS also been an effective scorer

The Question SHOULD be:
whether or not Olofsson can be played (at a presumed reduced role) 5v5 *without* hurting us

Bc it’s obvious that he can be effective on the PP

We should take the rest of this season to figure that out- one way or the other

And if that role is worth the Salary Cap he would take up

He was your typical post top 5 pick- there was debate about if we picked the right guy. Turned out to be the wrong guy

Same with the Cozens pick, but it looks like he picked the right guy
