He was your typical post top 5 pick- there was debate about if we picked the right guy. Turned out to be the wrong guy
Same with the Cozens pick, but it looks like he picked the right guy - sbroads24
People forget what a crapshoot it is once you get past the first few guys. Hell, I would even argue that Girgs ended up having a nice career for where he was drafted. |

There was someone on here that was 100% against that pick (Casey) at the time.
I'm not sure if they post anymore but I believe it was something to the effect that he's just a PP specialist, weak as (frank), zero effort, etc.
I'm too lazy to go back to find that poop. |

Speaking of management by coaches, and I don't know how big of a deal it really is, but Sean McDermott's record when it comes to challenges is pretty bad. He's 0-3 this year, and 6-20 overall. - buffalofan19
That's terrible.
Do you think McDermott has an overhead spotter watching the replays and calling them down to him?
Or is this on him %100? |

I know exactly who that was and they don’t post here often anymore.
They were mostly right.

I think draft philosophy is more important to evaluate then the actual picks turning out because that’s a total crapshoot |

Again, I don't think you go go just by the numbers. A lot of times they will take a flyer on a challenge at the end of a half because they are going to lose the challenge anyway.

Revisionist history is super fun. (Not you)
Like most back half top 10 picks there were some who liked it, some who didn’t and some who had no strong opinion either way (me) - sbroads24
I believe Ghofrani and one of our former long time posters did not like the Mittelstadt pick because a good chunk of his production was on the power play, and his even strength production was lacking for a top half of the first round pick. |

Yeah and he was mostly right. He also had no issue producing at EV during his great WJ tourney his DY1 |

8. Lucas Raymond - Frolunda HC (SHL/SuperElit)
Many will be surprised to see Raymond this low on my rankings. While he may very well have lots of talent, he also comes with a few question marks. Similar to Casey Mittelstadt in 2017, there appears to be a major disconnect between talent and results. His even strength primary points per game was lower than fellow draft eligible forward Noel Gunler, who ranked 18th in ISS hockey’ latest rankings and saw a similar ice time per game as Raymond.

should we not be concerned by the fact that two thirds of his points came from non even strength play?
unless hes the greatest penalty killer to ever walk this earth, its alarming that a top 10 talent centre cant score EV- strength - Sabresfan-365 |

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, of course, but last time I checked, it was Devine and the rest of the scouts that are working for the Sabres. You know, the ones who actually watch and scout these players all year long. I think they know better than we do. - Powerslave |

That doesnt explain a 6 -20 record away.
Maybe McDermott has done that 4 or 5 times , being generous.
6-16 or 6-15
Really not good.
50/50 seams reasonable |

I recall it being a real problem during his first season or two - he was clearly getting bad advice from above. According to this article he was 3 - 15 during his first few years. If that is true then he seems to have righted the ship since then.

They are gonna need him, Morse with his 6th recorded concussion could be a problem. |

forget about WR, I suspect that a good chunk of our next draft is going to be spent on OL. Morse is getting up there and the backups are barely passable.

I know that’s not what you’re actually saying but they absolutely cannot go into next season with the same group of weapons. Just can’t. |

Definitely need to do some work there on the OL. One mistake Beane made is he traded the wrong G to Cleveland in Wyatt Teller. |
