He was born in Canada which would you know, make him a Canadian.

So your sensitivity to alarm bells don't go off, Francis (Stripes)
very inside reference to the Big Lebowski.

Boy, people sure do have huge balls on this site. This literally doesn’t answer what he being Canadian has to do with anything you’ve said.

The freaking combine is all intangibles, including Psychological profiles, talk about intangible.

But intangibles have nothing to do with draft ranking. LOL

- konalover711

I think your agreeing with me but not sure. The draft combine and interviews are part of the intangible I stated. One player that comes to mind is leaf prospect Matt Knies who is a decent scorer with great size but the scouts love him for his intangibles, a future Rick Tocchet type of player. His play without the puck, his personality when interviewed all trending toward a star player.

I agree, if Frost was an American born player this would not change anything and being Canadian should not have even been mentioned, my opinion.

All summer all I heard that from this board is he isn’t worth more than a 4th. Sure. I’m not saying he’ll bring back a Richards and Carter like haul but I’m definitely trying to get a second and maybe a modest prospect in return.

Was talking with someone last week, said JVR could play himself into a 2nd and low end prospect, we will need a team who needs him and sees him as the piece

On hockey night in Canada they were discussing JVR being available already for trade. Now, that doesn't mean he won't be traded until the deadline but they also mentioned his contract. 5 million in actual salary, 1 million already paid in a bonus. 7 on the cap hit but if the Flyers eat some or half of it they'd probably get a decent return.

I'd take a first rounder in this year or next year's draft for him. I'd take a 2nd round pick and a B prospect for him. Heck you might even get an A level prospect.

Can we look at the players that fetched a first rounder last year? On an expiring deal

You just proved you know nothing about what scouts look for. Aside from skill the biggest intangible is how they play the body and how they react to physical play. Physical and mental toughness as a junior or college player goes a long way into the drafting process. They will take a 100 points players with 100 minutes of penalties over a 100 point players with 0 minutes in a heartbeat. Wow, I played the game and sadly I know this by experience. Being a big guy and an elite scorer I was not a scrapper. When the Rangers scouted me that was their only concern was that I would be pushed around. No money in hockey in 1970 and it turned out to be a great decision on a logging career instead as I have been retired for 16 years and still in great shape at 72. Sorry for the rant but you can't be skilled and play without being tough as well. That is an intangible.
- joegreif17

Scouts aren't going to rank a player in the high end of the first round based on how they take the body or how many penalties they take. It's going to be mostly based on talent and skill. The rest is all nice but it doesn't trump talent and skill.

I would be surprised if the Flyers got that level of return. Giroux got the Flyers a 1st round pick and a good prospect.

Possible not probable. If JVR continues to play well, but they need a desperate partner, one who REALLY needs him

I wasn’t comparing, just stating there is a way they get a 2nd for JVR, a first is possible but it would have to be a perfect storm.

He’s right,I should have been more specific, the forwards, on an expiring deal, that fetched a first round. Even the last few years. I’d like to see where jvr stands against that bunch. I can’t wrap my head around a team giving up a first for JVR

See, this is why I suggest a second and a modest prospect. A first round pick whether it be for this year’s draft or next year’s is already the start of a good return. I think many were sleeping on Tippett but he’s clearly an NHL player. So I’d say Giroux gave us a good return. JvR isn’t Giroux but he produces and serves a very specific role teams may need to fill. This specific role, JvR is one of the best at.

Frost is not remotely soft and he's been playing well overall for weeks now. It's just a question of putting up points more consistently. Frost has played 108 NHL games. What do you mean you just do not see how much longer they can wait? LOL
- MJL

I really don't understand the hate for Frost in here.
The kid is playing food hockey. Does he make mistakes? Absolutely, like everybody does. But he has been more consistent than not this year. He's finding chemistry and doing what thw foahxes have asked of him. The points will come... and they have been lately now that he is being placed with competent NHL quality players
What does this kid have to do for everyone to stop making him the whipping boy?!

Mantha
Foligno
Palmieri

All were in 2021. Foligno was better than JVR is today? JVR is a PPG since coming back from injury with the flyers this year.

My Ben Chiarot suggestion is if he can get a 1st then why can't JVR? GMs may like these "big hitting" dmen but they also like guys who score goals. JVR scores goals.

I'm not betting on him getting a 1st round pick, I'm saying I wouldn't be shocked if he does.

This is the trade deadline in a nutshell.

I don't think Giroux is a fair comparison considering he had limited spots to go. Wasn't it Florida or bust pretty much? JVR has no such issues in his contract according to cap friendly so JVR goes wherever they send him.

JVR would have to have a very strong season for the Flyers to get a 1st for him. Would have to get numerous teams in a bidding war.
