Frost was one of the best players on the ice for the Flyers
Ristolainen casually chased after the puck carrier in the corner with lazy stick waves instead of moving his feet and eliminating the play physically. Once the puck goes back to the point and is dumped back in. He then goes across the back of the net on a bad read to Provorov's check. Leaving his check wide open leaving Provorov to have to cross the back of the net to check Ristolainen's man. Ristolainen is then caught puck watching behind and the net and stationary as his man jumps out in front, receives a pass and moves the puck to the goal scorer. Cates also lost his check. It was like a 3 stooges level of defending by Ristolainen. Hysterical but hey, Tortorella and Shaw have fixed him. - MJL
Frost had a good final 10 minutes. Up until that point he actually played a pretty poor game and had a ton of turnovers and was pushed off the puck quite easily.

Microcosm of the entire team really.
Yet Frost was the only one singled out by the coach.

I don't think he had a great game but he was one of the better forwards on the ice for the team. He held his own against elite players in the league. In that matchup, winding up 50% in corsi, even in scoring chances and being on the ice for 3 goals for and zero against. 50% in faceoffs and scored a goal himself. If that's his bad game, I'll take it.

The final 10 minutes when Toronto essentially fell asleep significantly swayed all of those stats you just posted. Up until then, frost had a poor game. As did most of the team
At around 1:30 he's asked if Frost being up w/ TK at the end of the game was a vote of confidence. Torts proceeds to rain some poop down on Frosty. - Tomahawk
No reason the coach should dump on a guy like that. But I have to agree with the assessment lol. Frost has been much better as of late, yesterday was just an absolute awful game by the Flyers.

You could tell Frost was jittery in front of his friends/family at the start, had some careless puck touches... then the entire team got reamed in the 2nd pretty good.
But he was really quite good in the 3rd, and was instrumental in the two goals they scored. Still, Torts went out of his way to single him out, on a question where the beat was only asking if Frost had begun to earn his trust over the last little while...
I think part of it is mind games. I think another part of it is that Torts simply doesn't really care for Frost as a player.
- Tomahawk
I think part of it, is that he sees the potential, maybe that is the same as the mind games. I don't know what inpsires Frost, Torts thinks it is tough love.
When they trade JVR, Cates should go back on the Frost line. My sense is that Cates will go back only if Coots is back

Torts is always telling the beats that they're not gonna bait him into talking poop about his team or his players. Yet EVERY opportunity he has, he digs into Frost. This time he wasn't even baited.
I don't know if he's doing it on purpose, or it's just his inner monologue leaking out of his head, but it's very noticeable. As noticeable as his huge swinging boner for Cates.

agree, and it is an archaic method to motivate. It appears Frost is a laid back kid, that I get, assume Torts see's that and figures the kid needs it, just wrong way to do it. MJL laid it out pretty well, Frost VS tough match ups held is own and was part of the game, part of the little push back they had. Torts said the team was brutal, why not use someone not named Frost to make his point.

Let’s keep things quiet between him and Hayes. You’re not gonna turn a player against him…but Frost on the other hand…

please get rid of Brown, he is not an NHL player, bring any kid you like up, hell let Seeler play center . Braun, not sure there will be takers at the TDL for him, he cant keep up with the pace of the game and still make plays, hope it changes. MAC has crashed back to earth, should have traded a month ago
Torts aside, keep the kids moving forward, keep winning 1 of 10 and lets pray for a great TDL

What am I reading this morning? Flyers don’t get their 10th shot of the game until the 3rd period and we’re worried about Risto’s one mistake that led to a goal, while being the only guy on the ice watching the most dangerous guy on the ice in Austin Matthews.

I had seats on the glass for yesterday’s game …right beside penalty box. The one thing I came away with is the speed Frost is able to make plays at….both him and Tippet. I will never question Frost’s skating again…it’s not average…it’s well above. The Leafs definitely keyed on him when he had the puck, but I came away with the belief that Frost has a chance to produce in this league.

I thought Risto played good yesturday…got running around a bit…fell for the fake…tried to block shot. Other then that …it’s nit picking.

I see why Hayes got benched….away from the play he’s lazy. No other way to put it. When he has the puck, he can be very creative, but takes risks….he should watch JVR…little subtle chips, little subtle dump Ins to the proper corner. Seldom makes a high risk play…no wonder Torts loves him.

The Flyers had a decent first period in which in my opinion, I think the Leafs took the Flyers lightly. If you read my first post on this thread, I was expecting a really bad outcome for the team as a whole. The Leafs then came out and took it to the Flyers in the 2nd period and steamrolled the entire team. Leafs cane out and scored an early goal in the 3rd and then took their foot off the gas.
If we look at the facts of the game, while I can't say that Frost had a great game, he held his own in a very difficult matchup with most of his ES ice time matched up against elite NHL players. Doesn't change that Frost outskated two Leafs players to the net and finished on a goal. Contributed to the play on Farabee's goal. He was one of the better Flyer forwards on the ice in the game.

Cates plays a smart game. It’s not much creativity, but he is a talented kid. I thought Frost was noticeable all game then I heard what Torts said…I was like that’s not what I thought at all.

He's not really wrong. He could have been asked any question about any of the players and he could have been equally critical. Especially pertaining to the 2nd period.

The smart and right answer if you think the entire team was bad is to say that and dismiss the focus of the question on one player.
