Not sure why Phillips is up here instead of Galvas or Roos. |

Team Canada was more concerned with highlight reel plays instead of trying to win. - Newgod77
They definitely looked a little full of themselves

He's been hurt almost the entirety of the season. |

Odd that they would switch up the skaters after a win, but nevertheless...

Caleb Jones replaces Ian Mitchell, Reese Johnson replaces Jujhar Khaira and Colin Blackwell remains scratched as far as the Blackhawks’ skaters tonight. - Chunk
Not odd at all. If this team wins a game, something ain't right. Embrace the tank. |

Whole lot more fun when it was competitive. If Kane wants to break records here he better play until he's 50. |

I think he and Bedard would look great together, unfortunately we won't see that happen |

Hey, Bingo, what I do with Freddie Andersson on my canasta team. I know they would need a move to clear the logjam, and the Russian kid is playing light out, but you know once the vids are watched they taper....I just am stuck in limbo with Andersson - wiz1901
Russian kid better play lights out. His alternative is getting shot at in the Ukraine.

Two players at Rockford are dmen whom .might be.closest to adapting to the NHL slate; I am going with Galvas and Roos. However, I have a lot of faith in Theo's analysis and hope to see his input on Rockford files soon. I realize that Roos has not a lot of games played,, but due to his pro experience I think early on Theo can declare an initial evaluation of his game and what track to NHL - jhawk59
If Theo is currently blogging somewhere for the IceHogs can someone provide a link? |

Does it really matter? I don't think that Phillips or any of the d-men in Rockford (outside Vlasic) have much of a future with the organization. Plus, bottom pairing will be in and out of the lineup, might as well have the prospects play quality minutes in Rockford vs every 3rd game in the NHL.

Probably because he was the best defenseman for Rockford for most of the season when he was called up, and Galvas has fallen back a bit. Was Roos showing that much better? Does it really matter at this point? They aren't going to win much and are quite unorganized on the ice. I'd rather that most of these young guys play in the AHL for the majority of the season. |

Kurashev is a waste in the top 6. Maybe a waste in the NHL. - Ztra
He's probably the only current forward who could be on the roster in 3 years. He's not a top-6 forward, but on this team he is. Besides Toews, Kane and Domi the team has no other top-6 options. Kurashev and Raddysh are filling-in, but they're more like 3rd liners when playing to their potential. The team has bigger on-ice issues than Kurashev in the top-6.

There is a reason the Hawks draft prospects were rated near the bottom of the league (slightly improved over the last draft). There is a reason why the Dylan Sikura's, Wyatt Kalnyuk's, Adam Guadette's or whoever else was the BOD flavor of the month that were low round draft picks are out of the league, even after being traded to an organization (and according to this board given up on way too early). Whether it is size, foot speed, processing speed, or some other intangible that separates them from an NHL player.
Luckily KD has overhauled scouting, both on the amateur and the pro side. Hopefully the hawks have better results in the future in drafts and in pro trades. Right now it appears that has happened, but it takes a long while to turn an aircraft carrier around. IMO, the Hawks have years until they will be even a mediocre team, Bedard or no Bedard.

I ask that about Bears fans every year. What is the point of that? Their ownership doesn't even try. |

Guess I'm in the minority but I get more excited about Phillips each time I see him. For 3 straight shifts vs CLB kid read the play, came off his blueline, pinched and kept a puck alive. CLB was breaking out, long pass up to Johnson near the Hawk blueline, kid read the play stepped up and bodied him sticking the puck loose.......
The 21 yr old was much more fluid and decisive in his 2nd game and seemed to just play and not over think. Big kid, balanced skater, showing physicality, showing processing speed, head up on retrievals and quickly outletting, showing poise, again as a 21 yr old.
Probably best at RKF where he gets big prime minutes as a 21 yr old but very much like he's getting NHL minutes to feel the speed of the top level.
Canada vs Germany at 5:00 today. Germany played to a 1-0 loss to SWE in one helluva a game. If they bring that type of game vs Canada it will be a good watch. Another chance to see the 3 Hawk D prospects. Was pleased with Allen in the loss to CZE. As good with the puck as I've seen him. He seems comfortable with it on his stick. ..... As a mobile shutdown Dman with size all he needs to do is keep it simple, process quickly understanding his options and outlet the thing and he seems to understand that.

Didn't see either game, but according to the BOD I get it, 21 yo. are not supposed to make any mistakes in a game, because other teams defenseman never make mistakes. SMH.
Question why not bring up Galvas? All indications is Phillips was the best D on the Pgiies, and really elevated his game. Galvas is a 160 pond smurf defenseman that IMO has Wyatt Kalnyuk written all over him. 160 pound defenseman have to have elite talent, I do not think Galvas is elite.

I don't think KD's decisions bringing kids up is based on if they can help the Hawks win although agree that Phillips was/is RKF's best Dman with Vlasic injured.
I think KD, and the organIzation, base the decision to bring a kid up is for development. Maybe give the kid a taste of NHL speed to take back to the AHL and or give management a feel for where the kid is at in his development. ..... IMO going to be a while before callups are based on who helps the big club win.
That said, I'd like to get another look at Galvas up with the Hawks. Kid showed unexpected poise to me in last yrs callup. Haven't seen him since, maybe he's regressed badly.

I don't think he has regressed so much as the Hawks talent evaluators are different then when he signed.
Also, isn't Roos just a bigger version of Galvas, and now you have duplicate assets in the system?

Roos is a much bigger more stout player isn't he? I see Roos as a moblile defensive type Dman, not sure what the Hawks see. As you point out Galvas is a smallish offensive Dman.
But I hadn't thought of KD's new pro scouting department this yr as far as bringing kids up. As far as I know many of them have only seen tape of prospects up with the Hawks last yr. Maybe they wanna get a look at some of them live in the NHL?
Watched the last two periods of the Kings-Knights last night. Good game. Who new Copley would rattle off 5 in a row!!!

No kidding, I still think the Kings look for some goalie insurance at the TDL.
