I think when Tinordi comes back Phillips goes down. Hawks will play Tinordi hoping to flip him for a draft pick at the TDL.
I don’t think it matters how good or bad the young D play, they are each up for a set of games to get a taste and then go back to the Rock to further their development. - LAHawk
Wouldn't Mitchell be sent down before Phillips at this point? |

We talked about retooling or resetting last year, i think we proved we can turn this around quicker rather than calling it a rebuild which is why we didn't? Now they are competing for the worst record in the NHL. |

Pretty soon we can cross AZ off the list of competitors for finishing last.... Been watching a period of them here and there, plucky squad. Watched the TOR feed for a bit last night and they pointed out they were 6-3-2 at home, 7-3-2 now, and played 22 on the road and have now played only 12 at home. Lotta home games for them 2nd part of the yr.
AZ up to 31 pts, Hawks at 20.

this team can't score goals, and when they get down and try to score they give up to many chances in there own end. WHen they finally do move Kane. they may break the record for most times shutout in a single season. - Ging72

Agreed. Hell, the Hawks might not get to 31 points on the whole season. |

Lotta moving parts but watching Phillips each game you get the feeling the kid may be making it tough for KD to send him down. Showing poise and not in any way overwhelmed or tentative......... But yea, I don't want the kid up and playing every other game like they're doing to Mitchell. Wherever he is he needs to dress every night.
If they move a Dman or two at the TDL the numbers game changes but again as you point out they may wanna get guys like Galvas/Vlasic, or maybe even Allen/DelMastro/Korchinski NHL time after their jr season, another look with the big club.
As bad as the on ice results have been there are still lots of moving parts and interesting possibilities as the season goes on.

Saturday is definitely a game the Hawks need to lose.
Finishing last goes guarantee the Hawks the #1 draft pick in 2023, but it does guarantee a top 3 pick. I’ll be happy if the Hawks get one of Bedard, Fantilli or Carlsson. One of those 3 will have a significant impact on the rebuild.
If the Hawks draft #4 or beyond I’m not sure who they go with. Michkov, for all his skill, may be too much of a risk. The Hawks need somebody that can make a contribution either next year or the season after at the latest. |

Why do you feel that way? For me it´s more about what this team is in five years than next couple of years. Bedard is the only one who could jump and make impact right away imo. We might need to suck few more years to build a contender.

Gonna be interesting to see when KD decides it's time to bring back young NHL talent in trades as opposed to just draft picks or Lafferty types. This yr, next or longer?
I agree they don't wanna get too good too fast so as to draft high at least next yr but you don't want to limit returns and miss out on opportunities to add real talent to the organIzation.
Was thinking if the Hawks draft 3 or 4 and are too concerned with the risk of drafting Michkov and don't see Carlson as generational would KD trade down? Gather a couple more 1sts in a deep draft? - Mr Ricochet
I think maybe we see maybe Reichel up after the trade deadline? I have to think the Hawks will move anyone they can on the roster for picks. There really aren't any youngsters in Rockford I want to see on the big club. That is the saddest part.
Hawks will need high picks and hit on several lower picks.

Hahahaha that is the sad reality of this year. Hopefully it'll be at least interesting next year even though they will still be bad. - fattybeef
I can deal with bad for 3-4 years but I need to be able to focus on a few youngsters that might be the next core. Right now there isn't anyone in Rockford even besides Reichel and Mitchell that I care about. Vlasic maybe in another 2 years.
I could careless about any of the forwards on the roster right now. Hopefully, none of them will be on the team in 2 years.
Does anyone know if Kane is injured? Or has he lost half a step. Even on the rush he looks slow to me. |

3 of next 4 games over the next week against their competition - CBJ, SJS, ARI. Hopefully Stalock and Mrazek don't stand on their heads.
If fortunate to land Bedard, he'll make a contribution but the team should be a bottom dweller again. I'm also thinking that Kane won't decide whether to move or not until after the draft. My prediction is if Hawks select Bedard, Kane will decide to extend here to play along side him.

They are in pretty good position with their picks. They have 12 picks in the first three rounds in next two drafts. And after March TDL there might be even more. But is crucial that those picks are more hits than miss. Not all of them are going to hit but including this years draft with five picks in first two rounds etc. these three drafts (22,23 and 24) will determinate eventually how Davidson´s strategy worked out. |

They need to slowly start introducing top prospects into the league, I don’t think it should be done all in 1-2 years. Even with their top 2023 playing in the NHL the Hawks will be very bad next year. Toews and Kane will likely be gone, although I could see Toews back on a 2 year deal (they need to hit the cap floor). I think Korchinski spends next season in the WHL and Nazar will be back in Michigan. Reichel and Vlasic will likely be with the big club next season, Allan and Del Mastro will have a shot. Next season will be more exciting with all these rookies, but the results will be the same until the gain more experience and confidence. |

Hey Ricco, did you see this quote by Richardson regarding Phillips:
Ben Pope
@BenPopeCST
Richardson shouted out Isaak Phillips unprompted postgame. Hawks had a 10-7 scoring chance edge in Phillips' 14:16 of ice time.
"We were much harder in 1-on-1 battles. Especially Phillips, he was really good in the corners and being aggressive." |

Agreed. And they will need to develop legit top pairing guys on D. Not sure anyone in the system really fits that mold at the moment. Would be great if one of the D prospects surprised everyone and developed into a true #1 in 3-5 years. |

For only being 21 he looks pretty calm and confident and not overmatched physically.
I watch Murphy skate around with his head cut-off like he is just in panic mode the entire time.

Phillips shows some good promise and having Coach Richardson with 1400 NHL games of experience as a tutor shouldn't hurt his development.
Nice selection by the Hawks at 141st overall. Meanwhile his teammate in junior picked #2 overall isn't finding the NHL to be easy so far. |

Expecting all the pending UFAs to be traded and maybe others as well. Think the return may focus more on high 2025 picks or young players given that 2023 and 2024 already have plenty of picks.
Davidson has said he doesn't want to ever do another rebuild, part of that could be always having extra picks every year, so he might start adding to the 2025 draft. |

I don't think Kane has lost much, I think his production is more a testament to the fct that this is the first year in which he truly has not had a scorer/finisher playing on a line with him. Look back over the years and you had DeBrincat, Panarin, Sharp, Hossa, Versteeg even Saad and Shaw. This year he has...who? Anathasiou, fast but no finish and maybe the lowest Hockey IQ on the squad and Domi. who is 4 years removed from his 28 goals season and otherwise is closer to the 10-15 range if healthy. |

Yeah, not an easy path for Byfield yet, also in the LA system Turcotte, who many were hoping the Hawks would pick instead of Dach, has struggled as a pro, and at this point as the #5 pick in 2019 is approaching bust territory |
