You might want to check your definition of mediocrity. In the last decade they missed the playoffs 6 times, and won one playoff series. You call that mediocre?
I call it embarrassing.

I don't disagree with you. Torts, Hart, TK and a healthy Couturier will make this a bubble team, which is my definition of mediocrity. Without top-end talent, no team has a chance to truly compete in the NHL.

Show me where the miles ahead comes in.

Owen Tippet was part of that awful return for Giroux that you relentlessly complained about in how Fletcher was fleeced.

By the way, I have to correct a mistaken comment I made the other day when I said Fletcher has made only one good move as GM. I have to add the Giroux trade to the Niskanen deal. Making that two.

Wow, a correction from you? This must be a new year

Happy New Year BTW!

No, I never said Fletcher got fleeced. What I said was that Giroux is an a-hole by forcing the Flyers to trade him to only one team (Florida), thus Fletcher could not get the type of return for Giroux that he should have got for him. Fletcher actually did a good job with the Giroux trade given essentially his hands were completely tied behind his back. Tippet had a great game against the Kings the other night. However it seems like Tippet has a great game about once a month or so, and that is not good enough. Torts said as much in his post game presser. I think Torts has done a nice job with him, but you can see the frustration Florida must have had with Tippet, his inconsistency is off the charts!

Regarding Risto, yes I posted previously that Risto's underlying numbers this year are similar and in some cases worse than last year. However I really don't care what those metrics say and neither does Torts. You can clearly watch Risto on the PK and see he is playing much, much better than he was last year. His positioning, his active stick, his challenging of the shooters, etc. You yourself has posted that you hate the way you perceive Tort's coaches the PK, that it's too passive. To me, individual defensive metrics are tough to gauge because defense is a team metric, not an individual one IMO.

I wish he hadnt hurt Hart on a bad play that also resulted in the game-winning goal. At least he earned is millions in that shift.

Unfortunately that was the bad Risto on that play, just a bone-headed play to even attempt to cross check the player who had clearly beaten Risto to the spot. That was an example of his low hockey-IQ.

BTW, seems like Torts is starting to develop a Cates-level love affair with Ersson. If this continues, do the Flyers trade Carter Hart for top-end talent? Trading Hart and Provorov could get you a massive return. Just putting it out there.

For the month of December, here are some metrics around the Flyers Penalty Kill

CF/60 & FF/60 - 3rd
GF/60 - 1st
xGF/60 - 7th
SCF/60 - 4th
HDGF/60 - 1st
HDCA/60 - 10th

Looks to me like the Flyers PK is doing quite well compared to the rest of the league in these key metrics. TK on the PK is leading the way!

You've routinely posted that Fletcher got fleeced in the Giroux deal as part of your new found distate for Fletcher as a GM.

When Tortorella made the statement that he doesn't care about analytics. He was stating that as a pre-emptive statement to protect his team. He knew in advance that this team was not going to have strong analytic numbers. I assure you, he cares and uses analytics.

Ristolainen will have a rare decent game but overall, he is still the same player. The same player who lacks hockey sense and reacts to plays. Rather than reading and anticipating plays. The numbers I supplied to you are factual evidence that there is no improvement in Ristolainen's play. Those facts don't chance because you think that you can clearly see that he is better. He is not. He is not a good player.

Ersson has played 3 games and has coincided with Hart being unavailable.
