Tortotrella's defensive system is not effective. It is archaic. There are many top teams that play man to man coverage. - MJL
Maybe top teams with top players .. the Flyers are not one of those teams obviously, thus you play the system that best fits the roster you have. |

The system the Flyers are playing is archaic. It does not aid the development of the Flyers young players. It is playing to the lowest common denominator

Not sure about Brown, but I think Deslauriers is a faster skater than Hayes. Hayes is not close to TK, maybe equal to Farabee and Cates. - jd250
Deslauriers is a below average skater. Hayes is significantly better.

Isn't the NHL Network standard on cable/satellite services? - Scoob
I got the Hulu. Literally every other sports channel you can think of. Somehow NHL Network is not included despite being able to bundle the HULU and ESPN+

Deslauriers, Brown. Hayes is an equal skater to Farabee, Konecny and Cates. Hayes is not a slow skater. - MJL
I think Hayes is an awful skater but his stick handling and ability to use his body to protect the puck makes up for it. |

I went online to my Cox cable account this morning and added the NHL Network to my bundle, includes a bunch of sports channels, for $10 a month. Next month I’ll cancel it. For $10 I’ll watch the rest of the tournament.
It’s already working, took five minutes to activate. |

Cable TV in 2023... yikes.
Aren't most of the channels just playing syndicated reruns 24/7? |

When you’re old you watch, news, sports and home improvement shows. Basic cable covers that. Plus we have internet, obviously, if I want something on there. |

“A generational talent in Connor Bedard might tie Peter Forsberg’s All-Time record of 31 points in 7 WJC games. He sits at 21 points in 5 WJC games thus far.
This is absolutely unreal, absolutely unreal!”
That kid is entering some elite company. Already passed Lindros for most points in the WJT all-time, for Canada, I believe. |

Keep in mind Foppa did it when he was 19, too. Bedard is 17!
(plus 10 of Foppa's points came versus Japan) |

I know the level of opposition plays into these records, but it's still crazy to see. I remember watching Kuznetsov rack up 9 points in 30 minutes vs Latvia. Some guys are just on another level |

I'm glad that when chuck feltcher moved Giroux, who is having a great season, he moved all of our other vets, too, and fully committed to the unavoidable rebuild....
Oh wait....
Well at least he didn't trade/give away draft picks for stop gap players ahead of what could be the best draft in a long time...
Oh wait....
But at least he didn't extend players who could have brought back substantial returns ahead of a deep draft....
Oh wait....
All hail chuck feltcher! The man who will lead us to the hockey holy land!
Does anybody else feel that progress is hopeless with CF in charge? |

Streaming has it's place but some things are just better on cable/satellite - i.e., sports

Streaming you get the lag at times too, get beat to a score with a notification/text rather than live |

It’s just been a bunch of dumb decisions compounded over the past 8 years, Fletchers dumber than the rest by a lot - ClaudeFather
Sorry, going to go the other way on this one. I really like the TDA deal. 2 reasons. He is fun to watch, is a good skater and makes the pp better. 2nd, without someone like him to help the defense play with pace, this would not be a good enough team to develop young players. We saw that last season. Do we want that again just to tank? Sometimes when you tank, you drag others down with the ship. They needed a somewhat positive environment to develop their existing prospects. They have that now. Young players can just go out and play without a near disaster every game.
Maybe Risto is the signing you should be disappointed with. Too many assets were given up to get him. Should only do that for a bonafied superstar. I didn't even mention TDA's point production and pk work. I guess that's too many reasons.

I have a different experience with that. When watching the Flyers on CI I am regularly about 15-20 seconds behind my dad who watches on Comcast in the Flyers local market. He always texts me on goals both for and against so when I get a text from him I know something is about to happen. However, if I stream the game on the xfinity app on my iPad there is no lag.
Streaming on any platform is a pita to switch quickly between games. |

I would rather have Ghost, the two 2nds, the 3rd, and the 4th, along with the 500k in cap space for 2 less years.

Truly groundbreaking, I know!
But isn't this is our daily group therapy session where we all share our hatred of CF while we discuss civilized hockey in harmony?
I wanted to open the floor for those who want to share their feelings for the first time here and let them know that they aren't alone
This is and always has been the board of brotherly love, after all |

Although I like TDA as a player, hes not some positive impact on young players. His defending in general is sub par but he’s good with the puck. You can tank and bring in veterans to be a role model |

As much as I loved Ghost (I have his shirt), I saw what the coaches (at the time) saw. Too many turnovers caused by his inability to control the puck at the point. It went on for a long time. TDA uses the wrist shot to ensure the puck gets to the net for deflections or rebounds. This is not an earth shattering concept, but yet, Ghost consistently resorted to the slapper along with other forced plays that turned around on him at the blue line.
Maybe he learned his lesson with AZ and isn't doing that anymore ? Don't know. I don't watch their games. Probably is. He has a lot of points again & lower +/-.
I even agree with you to a point. Why couldn't he solve that problem here instead of management having to spend the assets ? I always think of Jeff Carter when this kind of question comes up. He had the talent to be the player he is today while here. But he needed Daryl Sutter to bring it out in him. Maybe if Ghost got a chance to work with Torts ? We'll never know. But it was a huge issue at the time.
Teams had him scouted for it. The odd man rushes made the team very unstable.

I'm just not a fan of blackouts, being forced to listen to Jack Edwards, all the gambling/CarShield commercials and paying Comcast another damned cent.
