Perhaps you should go back and check Torts' employment record. He actually has had rather long stints everywhere with the exception of Vancouver. - Phillywhiteout
That's why I said his shelf life is admirable. He's won over 1000 games. That says a lot. It's very admirable. But his attitude and demeanor doesn't seem to stick with veteran players for very long in today's NHL. I may be wrong but it seems that the guys who liked Torts were younger players when they were coached by him. I have done no research to prove that but I thought Atkinson was younger when he gave Torts credit ... my memory slips me now but I think the others who liked him were younger players at the time as well. I apologize for my early onset dementia if I am wrong |

I don't have a stream. How does Cutter look tonight?
How is the game?! Is it a good one? |

I can’t watch it because YouTube TV (as well as Hulu) doesn’t have NHL Network.
Awful
Also it’s tied. Another goal from one of Gauthiers’ line mates with him not registering an assist.
He’s gonna take some time |

Fun game to watch, physical side goes to Canada, goalie play the same. That disallowed goal was hard to take 4-2 Canada going into 3rd USA needs do muscle up and push |

Do the Flyers have any interest in defenseman Ryan Merkley from San Jose? |

Hosed on two goals. - MBFlyerfan
You can’t push the goalie into the net. I thought the first goal should have counted, didn’t love that call |

USA is getting a lot of O zone time but they aren't getting many really good close in chances. Canada is doing a decent job of keeping them outside.

Great game so far. I was shocked that the first goal didn’t count but second one was a no goal. It was under his pad and they harpooned his pad into the net.
Apparently on the first goal the tsn analysts say that iihf rules are different than nhl and that part of the issue is that Blake took the puck out of the blue paint and made contact with the tender at the same time.
Canada goalie has been unreal. USA should be winning but he’s dominated. |

Cutter looks pretty decent. He’s bigger than I thought and seems to handle the puck well. He certainly doesn’t look out of place out there with the talent in this game. |

Wow. So you're telling me Ghost carried the puck ? When ? He approached the puck the same way EVERY time. Let me explain this system. For d men, either get the puck on net, get it deep, or cycle, period. That didn't happen with Ghost. He would shoot right into the shin guards of the wingers up by the blue line, puck ending up behind him most times. There are no coaches out there who want the puck BEHIND their playmaking d man at the point. Can't do what you claim is so important in today's game if you give up control so easily. If it wasn't blocked, it would miss the net with blinding speed, ricochet back out above the circles, prime for a counter rush. Ah, I get it. You were talking about the opponent being able to acquire & play the possession game against us, now I got it.
Once again, I don't want to go around in circles. Ghost probably fixed the problem after some time with the Yotes. After how long and how many coaches ? TDA is as advertised. - BluehorseShoe64
When, when he was racking up 46, 40 and 65 point seasons. Your post is filled with hyperbole. Gostisbehere and AV clashed, Gostisbehere had some confidence issues and his game suffered. Amazng that it picked right back up in Phoenix.
TDA is as advertised. Pretty good offensively and pretty bad defensively. It was a brutal move to acquire TDA by Fletcher.

Do you honestly think Torts wants the puck in his zone the entire game? The past several games the Flyers have produced much more offense than they could earlier in the season, and that is because they are generating many more chances and starting to convert them. In their last 6 games the Flyers have scored 5,3,5,4,4,4 goals which is almost a 5 goals per game average.
It takes time for a team to come together and get comfortable in a new system. I think Torts is not in the least archaic and is getting the most out of this roster. The team is attacking more, their possession metrics are much better and they are scoring! - jd250
Here is some quality information on how a modern day NHL coach has his team play. It's very educational. Read this and them watch the Flyers play.

It doesn't take time to play Tortorella's systems. It is archaic and basic. It's turtle hockey. You judge a team over a wide sample of games. Not a small sample. The Flyers are 28th in the league in scoring. |
