Yup, it’s an ignore the phone Situation. TK and Provy lol. Someone on here said there are 3 Patrick kanes in this draft 😂 there’s Bedard and then just some other guys. Carlson before injury and Fantili have showed that there are going to be some sad teams at #2/3 . Getting #1 is a game changer - ClaudeFather
It's probably gonna look similar to the gap that existed on draft day between Eichel, Marner and McDavid. They were all potential franchise players and all, but one guy was just on another plane of existence. |

You have to go back to 2004 or 2005 to see this type of player in his draft year in my humble opinion. This Bedard kid is just on a different level, like Crosby was said to be, and was. Things worked out pretty well for the Penguins.
That said, Anze Kopitar was taken ten spots behind him by Los Angeles and he turned out to be a heckuva player himself. Both Pittsburg and LA build incredible depth and talent along side those guys and they won five Stanley Cups between them. |

There's a lot of people who disagree with this. Fantilli is apparently a small step behind.
Thing is, there's lots more drafts to come and any large tank type trades, Risto or Hayes, would be off season moves. A team like say Seattle has no reason to take on that cap hit this season, during the season. Bigger and longer contracts are generally moved at the draft.

If you watched any of the WJC games and saw Canada play, came away thinking Fantilli is a small step behind, you need your eyes thoroughly examined |

Not for nothing but I keep pointing to that dog taking a dump on the logo at center ice as the turning point. Totally cursed since then.

Add to this they have 18 picks over the next 3 drafts in the first three rounds.
3 firsts
8 seconds
7 thirds.
40 million in cap space next season.
The only things holding them back will be the arena they play in.
In all honestly the NHL needs to move them. - MBFlyerfan
Feeder team. They’ll trade the players for more picks when contract time comes around

Vrana on waivers, not sure what happened with the player assistance program but he was a good player in Washington - ClaudeFather
He was good in Detroit! Very good, when he played. There is no question I’d pick him up, especially if we’re trading JvR by the end of this season…or workout a deal that works for both sides. |

According to Capfreindly, Vrana has been sent to the AHL on a conditioning assignment.

I see that, but Score App also says he was placed on waivers so they could call up Fabbri |

Coming off a major shoulder thing, plus whatever personal issue he was dealing with, plus he hasn't played in forever, plus he hasn't exactly looked good in his conditioning stint, plus a pretty big cap hit.
Yzerman is betting he can sneak him thru waivers at this time, or he's giving Vrana a chance at a fresh start. Either way, Flyers are in no position to pick him up. |

Good points, all of them.
In my humble opinion, it is not enough. It takes aggressive moves to ensure a rebuild goes properly.
What moves has the team made in the last 2 years to signify they know the importance of the draft, and placement come draft day to acquiring high end talent? Trading assets for Risto? Moving picks for TDA? Holding on to Provorov, and Sanheim who are veteran players already? Bringing in Tortorella who everyone knew would squeeze a few more points from the team?
Nothing signifies they are rebuilding, and nothing signifies they know the importance of the draft.
The rebuild will be declared over as soon as they have a lick of cap space this summer. They are all too happy to be in a position to fight for a wildcard spot, or miss out on top players in the draft.
This was the perfect year to do it, still is. Yet we are going to hear about some sort of growth because they had a nice California trip. - FlyerFan3260
If you point out mistakes in the approach to building a team (which you have) that occurred over the last decade, especially moves in the last two and a half years, most on here will agree with you. The general approach hasn’t been able to bring in the top-end talent the Flyers are missing. This last offseason was alarming. If you tell me you don’t believe the Flyers will make the right moves at the deadline, this offseason, or the best choice with draft picks, I can sympathize. Their track record is dismal, the presentation of a vision is lacking and a clear plan is exactly that, invisible.
However, I don’t believe there was anything the Flyers could have done or not done over the last two weeks to better their odds at the draft. Winning three games in a row does not change my opinion of the problems or outlook. It’s not the coaching staff or player’s responsibility to get higher/more draft picks. It bothers me all the whining when they win. It’s their job to play their best and try to win. I think making points about poor organizational decisions that either happen in the offseason or have not yet happened based on current standing and a little win streak is misplaced.

They will be getting an Arena in Tempe I believe, only holdup is flightpath to airport. - konalover711
There is a PUBLIC VOTE (Tempe residents only I believe) in November for this arena.
Supposedly no public funds but I think it goes down big time.
I have heard the owner has some kind of gambling licensing that requires the team to be in Arizona. I think that's why they are not in Houston. Cannot go to Quebec because the alignment does not work. |

Quebec just isn't attractive to the NHL, for a variety of reasons.
It's not just about realignment.

The Flyers should have no business taking on a question mark player with 5+M cap hit. He was a decent player at his best but no where near good enough to take that on.

Apparently he deleted all his Red Wings related posts from his social accounts... looks like he's moving on.
He was a really really good 5v5 goal scorer, so maybe a team w/ contract slots and cap space may either claim him or swing a retained deal for him. But yeah, so many question marks. |

Are we talking about the 2023 1st-overall pick?
Because I don't believe that package gets you anywhere close. Not this year.
Simultaneously, it's also a horrible idea to put all your eggs in one basket (see: Eric Lindros) - Tomahawk
I was, yes. This was largely an exercise in how bedard is viewed just as much as it was an evaluation of where you think the flyers will actually finish / value those players. |
