Listened on Serius 91 last night between 6:00 and 7:00pm. They did some pregame stuff on the Sens including a short interview with Claude Giroux.

The consensus is easily that they love this team, especially Brady, Timmy, Chabot and Sanderson. We are going to be very good. Soon enough!

They could also try Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson again at some point. Their chemistry was outstanding for the most part

If the Sens are going to be really competetive, they need more top end talent. Sometimes if I just think as a Sens fan - I say man they have tons of talent - but the reality is, so do MANY other teams.

Buffalo - Tage Thompson is one of the best goal scorers and point producers in the NHL. Dylan Cozens is developing into an elite player. Jack Quinn and John Peterka are only going to get better. Then on defense their have TWO 1st overall D-men in Dahlin and Power. Matthew Savoie, Noah Ostlund, Jiri Kulich all drafted in the 1st round last year.

This is just a team in our division. We have Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson. That is one of the best 1-2 young combos we've ever had (outside a young-ish Redden, Chara). With that said, already said Buffalo has Power and Dahlin. Go over to the cup champs - they have MAKER, Toews, and Girard. But who's coming/here? 4th overall Bowen Byram (thanks to Ottawa coincidentally).

Speaking about Buffalo... what happened with Jeff Skinner? That looked like the worst contract in the NHL, but now he's playing well. He'll probably get 30 goals again this year. There's still 4 years left on the deal, so who knows if it will go back to being bad, but still.

I think that is correct and some folks should try and put up opinions or ask questions and other folks should put in a little extra effort to respond. If we work at it we should be able to get a couple pages of comment after every game.

Winnipeg is one big hockey team and will be a tough opponent in the playoffs. Ottawa has shown well for a bit here and there but the Jets are winning most of the puck battles against the smaller Ottawa team. Plus their goal tending is better.

Just listened to Smith's postgame. So the grinder coach's solution is to put a worker on every line and grind it out. That sounds like a great plan! (Attn: sarcasm alert)

Finally the guys on the TSN postgame are starting to recognize that you can't have small players in your top six when you play these big, skilled, fast and physical teams if you want to have any chance of winning. If these losses result in this franchise recognizing this and deciding not to give big money to a exceedingly diminutive winger then this will end up being a big win.

I wonder if Norris is going to get the surgery now?

The Chabot/JBD combo looked shaky this game, Batherson made a few noticeable unforced errors, but ultimately goaltending let us down here again. They're not bad netminders, but they are streaky with remarkably poor timing. I feel like we've seen a disproportionate number of games this season where the Sens have outshot opponents by a sizeable margin only to lose.

I agree completely on the size issue.

Maybe Giroux + DeBrincat was too much skill added at the expense of size and grit.

Taking both Nick Paul and Formenton out of the line up was a larger loss than most folks expected.

Once Boudreau gets canned, the Sens should pounce. This team has plenty of problems, but I still think the biggest one is DJ.

It would appear that moving one or both DeBrincat and/or Giroux at the deadline may be viable.

DeBrincat to Rangers could work. Giroux would be a spectacular fit on the Bruins.

I don't think any deals get done until their is some insight into the priorities of the new ownership group.

Contrary to some opinion, the team coming up short this year is actually a positive for new ownership. New owners will not be disappointed with this year and the promise of great expectations combined with a failure to deliver.

I would have to say they dont follow the team like us. Tkachuk and sanderson are great and will get better. Im not convinced of anyone else at this point from staff to players

I think girouix is starting to feel he made a mistake signing on. I also think he is starting to show his age and that will continue to get worse. He will have energy the first 3 months after a long summer off .
But it would be a mistake to let him go you need some veteran presence of his character present. Too bad it wasnt Stone.

Changing coaches at this time is merely a shuffle step in this slow dance. New ownership will change the GM. It is what new ownership does. It would be a dereliction of responsibility by the new ownership group not to make that change.

A new GM will name a new coach. It is the way hockey works.

If the Sns were change coaches this late in the season. They might get a short burst in terms of wins. But, it won't change the overall season result but it could adversely impact draft position.

This is a really good draft and the Sens need to be patient just a little longer.

Last summer my priority pieces if the Sens would be able to do a deal would have been Pierre Luc Dubois, Matthew Tkachuk or, especially, Evander Kane. My defensive priority would have been Seth Jones.

Sometimes you need to go back and consolidate before moving forward. This is a really good team with a great future. But....

I remain a strong believer in plus/minus, especially when used as an indicator of team and line performance. Sens' top 2 lines get beat up badly when playing 5 on 5.

More often than not, hockey stats are used by folks who have never played the game, to confuse the basics. If the Sens top line plays 5 on 5 against the opposing teams top line they will be outscored because they give up too many goals. If they get outscored they lose.

When people go on at length about the need to improve the bottom six...they entirely miss the obvious. When your top 6 (no matter what combination) is giving up more than a 1/2 goal every game at even strength...you are going to lose more than you win.

I think you're right on the number. The coach is bad, but he has gotten Dorion's endorsement way too recently, a change would make PD look myopic. Afraid gambling and failing in the offseason probably sealed Dorion's fate. Best can be hoped for is the team miraculously goes on a tear. Grim scenario for his job security.
