I thought about Hart being in the conversation but I still value the Center position higher. I suppose it depends how close LA thinks they are to winning again. - Aaron_85
You value the Center position more than goaltending when building a team? Or simply value that centre more than hart? Very good to elite goaltending (see vas) along with a stud dman is essential for building a consistent contender. Build from the net out.
Although the avs won with a middle of the pack tender last year, it’s not a model for consistent playoff success imo. |

Yeah good GMs recognize mistakes and correct them or do what they can to avoid them in the future. Dubas has done that. - Aaron_85
Really, they have some of the best talent and collapses every year. Joke come playoff time . Flyers would probably upset them in 7. Leafs are a joke come playoff time. |

I agree but you really need all of the above. Top-performance goalie, center, d-man, plus two other impact skaters in order to consistently contend.

So if Hart and Provorov are those two pieces why does everyone want the team to tank? Or why would someone consider them worthy of Byfield? If I'm LA I'm standing pat.
I value the center over the goalie for a rebuild. Goalies are easier to come by than a top center. As you said, Avs won with Keumper in net. You can catch lightning in a bottle with a goalie, can't really do it with subpar centers.

GM's don't play the games. Doesn't mean the GM is bad.

The team has been a boring, declining loser for a while now, yet we're still tuning in and complaining about it everyday. It's as close as you get to true marital-grade love without having the "I don't know, what do you want for dinner?" argument. - BulliesPhan87

You’re talking to a fan base that had plenty of star power at forward and defense but Richard in goal….hence no cups.
It’s hard for us to comprehend

Sure I get it. I think there's just been more stories of mediocre tending getting the job done than mediocre centers. Niemi in chicago too

LA has a log jam at rd and will for years. Clarke has top pairing written all over him.
Provorov fits with there current team well, imagine dought/provorov pairing.
If Chyc is worth 3 assets then the ask has to be 3 assets. Clarke and a 1st would do but ask for the second and if they want us to take back a contract say peterson then we can ask for more assets.

Provorov isn't going to fetch Clarke and a first either.

I don't think the Leafs as a team are built properly for the playoffs, in that they do not have a shut down defensive pair nor do they have depth in their bottom 6. You need a sufficient amount of muscle and grinders in your lineup in order to enable your star players to do their thing. This has never changed in hockey since I was a kid. Sure the rule changes have made it easier for skilled players to score goals in the regular season, but come playoff time its a different game and I don't think that will ever change. |

Provorov is a 25 year old, reasonably priced and cost controlled defenseman. He will fetch a good return. Look at what Chiarot got last year or what Savard got a couple of seasons ago. I still think the Flyers should see if Montreal is willing to part with 1 of their 2 top 10 picks. Provorov would certainly help Montreal who needs more experience on their blue line. |

Think about what you're saying here. Montreal traded Chiarot is what was an obvious move in a rebuild to get a 1st round pick. Now you're saying that they're going to turn around and trade a top 10 pick to get more experience on their blueline?
There is no chance that Montreal trades a top 10 pick for Provorov. Florida's first round pick is top 10 protected. |

It's the same thinking that you had on the Giroux trade and now seem to have for trading Provorov.

And a lot of elite goalies who fell short because their teams could never score enough goals to win 16-games.
There is no true recipe to win the Cup. Luck, hot streaks and circumstance can always wreck the best laid plans or lift a relatively weak team. |

I misunderstood the trade specs. It involved a previous trade with Buffalo.
