I'd go average goalie, good defense and run the puck up the ice, instead of passing it. - Boss34
I think we are saying the same thing. By "great goaltending", I mean an average goalie needs to play out of his skull for a few weeks.

Would you look at that.. another poster who thinks we need Joker pushed down to 3rd pair... Crazzzzyyyy - DirtyDan
The poster is saying : a trade, its gonna have to be a really good defenseman to force joker down to 3rd pairing.
Not: joker is a 3rd pair defenseman
Ideally joker is a 3rd pair defenseman and we find the 2nd pairing guy.
Realistically joker is our #4 , we are not making any trade to improve our depth. They like joker. Vibes and all.

I look at is as, what better way to address the depth with getting a better guy to slot Joker down a pair. Then if someone gets injured Joker can slot up for the time being and the chemistry is already there.
This way you've essentially "fixed" the D problem with (lets say) one move and can focus on the forward depth - DirtyDan
Getting good players to be better than the players you have in the bottom half of the roster should be a constant objective. |

I guess what I'm getting at is, unless it's a clear upgrade, they don't need to overpay just to add a RHD.
I'm not even the biggest Joker fan but I was surprised to see his numbers are close to or better than a bunch of guys I thought might be cost effective upgrades. |

So having a real top 4 RD and having Joker moved down to 3rd pair duties would go a LONG way IMO.
Joker can handle the spot with Power I have no doubt about that, he would just we way more useful on the 3rd pair. - DirtyDan
I would think that if we got chickenman that he would actually play on the 3rd pair and we would be having a play-driving defenseman on the ice at all times.

I mean Kevo says it every time he speaks into a microphone.
I think they're serious about this year, considering their handling of UPL. But that should continue with the acquisition of a middle 6 F and an RD4. Of course they won't be rentals.

Would you look, here's another guy that wants joker as a bottom pairing. 😀 |

Would you say Joker's #'s are more consistent with a 4th or 5/6 defenseman?
I'm not sure why he gets hated on so much? |

Hard to say cause he keeps getting hurt when he starts to play well. Probably a low end #4.
Im sure if they can upgrade there they will, but he's not their biggest problem right now. |

Brady and Corey Dillon were essentially Tannehill and Henry.
Tannehill was a heck of a lot better than Big Ben was when he won his first ring. - Swedish_Jesus
Brady is essentially Tannehill

He'd be more useful on the 3rd pair.
You wont find someone here that thinks otherwise |

Different coaches and personnel can have huge impacts on players.
Granato has Jost and Clague playing like NHL players. Dallas Eakins has Klingberg as a train wreck other trainwrecks drink beer and watch. Gallant had Miller playing exceptionally well and Lousy crushed him. - TheSabresTaco
I think it’s safe to assume we’re not gonna agree on Klingberg.
I think the Sabres should lean into their high octane offensive identity |

benching quinn and peterka IMO was the wrong message
you have guys with skill like krebs, casey and olofsson
one of them should have been bumped up - homiedclown
I disagree
Quinn and Peterka needed to sit for a minute
Sending them down would have been the wrong message. |

Their biggest problem is having a 3rd pair that cant play meaningful minutes. Having Joker down a pair helps with that.
Improves the depth while alleviating pressure from the top 2 pairs. Win-Win
Dahlin and more-so Power look drained some nights

I guarantee it's a nothing burger. Benching rookies is every so often is common practice, especially when they sputter.
Not that anyone cares, but that question should be directed towards Asplund and Hino instead. - TheSabresTaco

I'm genuinely surprised at your Klingberg support. We know what he can and can't do, but holy (frank) man, he's terrible on defense.
No one in the league is worse. Literally.
He was bad enough last season on a good team. He was Jokiharju bad. |
