The Flyers don't need to do anything at the TDL. They'll be acquiring Sean Couturier at that point. - Pixote Andolini
For sure. The medical staff has a solid plan and he will be ready to go next month. |

This is a classic example of looking at the smallest of samples and ignoring the whole. The Flyers PK is passive and sits at a mediocre 75%. That gave you goose bumps? Pressuring a player with the puck when he is not in a passing or shooting position is a basic fundamental of penalty killing and defensive play. It's taught in high school. - MJL
If you (not you specifically) don’t think Torts has done a good job this year, then I gotta question if you are objective or simply did you watch the past two years compared to this season?
It’s night and day. They are actually a team now. The young players are improving and TK is playing a man’s game right now. TK even said earlier in this year about coming into camp in the best shape of his life.. I gotta be ready for torts camp. It’s that anticipation of accountability that is huge.
Now if Torts could just figure out how to put Cates brain on Hayes and Ristos shoulders we may really have something. |

The Flyers had a bad stretch in the PK after a good start, that is why their PK percentage is poor. But if you look at the last month the PK had gotten a lot better. When was the last time a Flyers team lead the league in short handed goals? Maybe the 80s team with Propp and Poulin? It was nice to hear Torts highlighting the good coaching he and his staff are doing. |

The Flyers in past seasons were a dysfunctional mess playing as individuals rather than as a team. This portrayed to fans as a lack of effort. Tortorella has them playing a basic and more cohesive team game. They are being carried offensively by a few players and getting good goaltending lately. They are more competitive now then they were earlier in the season. We'll see if it lasts.

Goaltending good. TK really good. Laser from Tippett. I actually enjoyed most of that game.
Some of the young guys are coming along nicely. LET'S GO FLYERS? |

So which lazy teammate did Provorov tell that they needed to make more of an effort after he passed the puck directly to a Capital for a goal against in the 3rd period? |

He's not a center. Tortorella is forcing a round peg into a square hole. He can play the center spot defensively but does not have the puck skills to play center. If Couturier comes back, they have Frost and the potential to draft a center. I have no interest in a 3rd line checking center. That's archaic and old school. I want 3 scoring lines who play responsibly away from the puck. - MJL
If you can't put up points playing center with TK and Farabee, then that's not a good sign.
Hayes was acquired at a high price by Fletcher in 2019 to be the Flyers 2C and suddenly in late 2022 we're told that he can't play center at all, even as he's scoring more points per game than he ever has. What an odd situation. |

Only thing I can figure is that he must of thought that York was across from him. Which is where the right side defenseman should be but might want to look first.

Honestly I have enjoyed most of the games this year, they are competitive. Last night I was really impressed with the Flyers speed and pace of play. It’s nice to see the team have the puck more often than not! |

No team "tanks" willingly. Tanking is a combination of being void of talent, having no structure, tuning the coaching out etc. Bad teams just snowball. These are professionals making a lot of money. They are not going to willingly lose games. This isn't WWF wrestling where outcomes are predetermined.
My anger is at ownership and Fletcher for ineptly managing the roster. Being angry because they are winning games is just misguided nonsense.
They were never getting Bedard anyway. |

I thought the same thing, and wondered why York was behind him instead of on the other side of him. It happens sometimes, not going to kill Provey for it. |

Risto at 18 minutes a night, not on the PP, and only a -4 at 36 games in. Seems like he's improving to me. Yes or no? - lacaprup
No, he's having the worst season of his career with 2 points in 35 games. You don't pay a guy $5,100,000 just to play sheltered minutes on the 3rd pair; Nick Seeler is doing that for $775,000, and he has 8 points compared to just 2 for Risto. Ristolainen is only -4 because he's not on the ice for any PP or ENG situations (where it's easy to rack up minuses) because his offense has completely cratered under Torts.
If you look at his 5on5 goals allowed metrics, he's 2nd worst just behind Provorov who at least has the excuse of playing against the other teams top forwards. Risto's fellow 3rd pairing dmen, Braun and Seeler, allow significantly fewer goals against per minute played.

This is kind of where I am at as well. Chicago basically signaled in the offseason they were tanking. Anaheim heel turned to tank and kept on a lame duck coach after a poor start to be tank commander. Injuries ravaged Columbus and their goaltending is terrible. Arizona has been tanking since 2015. As bad as the Flyers roster is, they were never going to compete with those teams, especially with how good Hart started off. Good goaltending covers a lot of this teams' warts.
I just worry now that the injury excuse will continue to justify Fletcher's employment. "Look how good they are without Ellis, Couturier and Atkinson! Imagine where they would be with those guys!!!" |

If he wasn’t a rookie with only a half season under his belt I would agree. I see enough there to justify how he’s being used up to this point. We’ll see where it goes but he is fast becoming a favourite of Torts, and for good reason. |
