I think there would be a lot less doom and gloom around here if Florida’s first round pick was for the 2023 draft not the 2024 draft. I am interested in knowing what JvR’s market value is for a guy who has an established role on any team and is actually playing well this season. I’m sure he won’t land us a first but I am hoping for two pieces. Nick foligno for example, who wasn’t very good for the Blue Jackets but still pulled a first round pick.

It will depend on on how the market materialize’s. Who’s available? Who’s buying? As well as how good JVR is playing.

Yes. I don’t think that was ever in question. Read Djapana’s original post. He pointed out that McKinnon is the only player, who was picked #1 in the last 15 years, to be on a cup winning team. No one is saying that there hasn’t been a #1 pick on a Stanley cup team in the last 15 years.

yea well the avs still have elite talent in high picks with Rantanen and Landeskog to start with

No doubt. I just thought it was interesting that McKinnon (picked in 2013) is the only #1 pick since 2008 (when Stamkos was #1) to be on a Stanley Cup Champ team.

Trade deadline is a month and a half away. Should be interesting.

most of the picks went to rebuilding teams who are getting good or will be good soon so it's a good idea to tank for the picks

I get this argument and I would love the Flyers to get atop 4 pick in the upcoming draft. I agree the Flyers lack that elite “guy”, I just don’t think they are worse then at least 4 or 5 teams below them….so what becomes important.? If the Flyers can develop 6-8 young players on this team and have some of them really become solid to good NHL players then to me that’s as huge as getting anyone other then Bedard.
We have: Cates, Tippet, Allison Frost, York, Ersson, Laczynski that are Pup’s and are getting opportunities to develop and grow with the big club this year. If by the end of the year the Flyers are 20th or so that to me will be the result of some these kids stepping up and playing major roles with some success.
We have guys like Konecny, Farabee, Hart, Sanheim….for the Flyers to be good, these guys have to continue to show that this years play is what they are….although I think Farabee and Sanheim had slow starts, they both have elevated their play. A lot of there success of late is due to the “archaic” coaching they receive….guy are buying in. If you are simply hoping for Bedard or a top 4 pick this year you had better hope the lottery balls fall our way, because this team is getting better not worse.

I agree with you 100% about the kids. They're personal growth is more important than a top pick that we would need extreme luck getting anyway.
With that said we definitely need more elite talent and we have to go against the odds ans find that guy with a mid round draft pick.
Either way, it's going to take extreme luck to fix this team either by getting a top pick or hitting big time on a mid round pick
And this hockey club isn't known for our luck...

Draft's deep, there's gonna be elite players taken after pick 10 this year... up to our crack scouting staff to unearth another TK instead of a JOB.

I do not care how good York may be Caulfield is going to score 40 for Montreal this year. Think about that.

We sure could use him as a forward. I remember those discussions on this board. A lot of people wanted us to take him. Looks like they were correct.

I agree with all of this. We wanted to see what the kids can do and it's been great to see them developing. I'd also love a top pick but it's not going to happen unless the guys you mentioned start to regress. I can't see how anyone would want that to happen or think it will happen. Sure, we will hit some bad stretches, but let's ride it out and let the chips fall where they may. Maybe we will get lucky with the lottery balls....we are due for some luck, aren't we?

This gets frustrating. A team can't have every good player/prospect. Teams miss out on top talent all the time. I know you aren't complaining and sure it would have been nice to get him but time to move on and not dwell on it.

Untrue. Plenty of years this organization has had top talent. Giroux as of late. 22nd pick over all!

He's past his prime but it doesn't make getting him at 22nd overall not a great talent.

There was a time when the Flyers used to hit on late firsts (Gagne, Richards, Giroux, J Williams, etc) like clockwork but there's no more Simon Nolet or Chris Pryor at the draft table anymore. And for all of Holmgren's hilarious deficiencies as a GM, he actually did a good job directing the draft working under Bob Clarke.

I just don't have the same confident in the current group of scouts and Brent Flahr.

The issue I have is it has become almost routine. We need to do better scouting and developing. Tk is progressing a lot but here we are discussing trade options for provy. Once he gets run out of town I believe he’ll become what we all have hoped. Just for another team.
