I never miss it, one of my favorite podcasts. Yes, its nice to hear that Torts is a lot more than a stick in the mud defensive coach. - jd250
That's pretty much what he is.

Last year for Bergeron and Krejci. The Bruins will need an experienced center. But to answer your astonishing question, obviously the Zacha deal sets the market for a player like Hayes. - jd250
I don't think you're familiar with Boston's cap picture. The Zacha deal has nothing to do with the market for Hayes. Zacha was a 25 year old RFA. Hayes is a 30 year old player signed to a contract with 3 years of term left after this. Somehow you are trying to conflate a contract market for a 25 year old RFA with a trade market for a 30 year old player. |

Hayes is better than Zacha, he is better today and will be better next year also. This contract does IMO provide evidence that Hayes can be moved with just some salary adjustment. |

You should listen to this podcast, good insights about Risto and Frost also, where CC says almost to the word what I have been saying about these players for several weeks. |

Bergy and Krejci don't exactly look like they're getting ready to retire, especially if the Bruins keep playing like this.
And yeah... Zacha has nothing to do w/ Hayes lol. It's apples vs oranges.

Zacha is 25 years old and is a player that is on the rise. Boston feels he is going to continue to improve, hence the signing. Hayes is 30 years old and is likely to decline as he ages. It provides zero evidence that Hayes can be moved.

I highly doubt that "CC" stated that Frost is an AHL player, as he has, I believe 15 or 16 points in his last 20 games. Ristolainen has been moved to the 3rd pair and is the 6th best defenseman on the team. Seeler is ahead of him. Ristolainen has become a 5M a year #5 defenseman that the Flyers gave up a first and 2nd round pick plus a player for. |

The sad part is that after all of these years, he has become correct.

Kinda interesting that the winning coincided w/ RR being removed from the top-pair... |

It's hilarious that there's a twitter narrative out there now that yeah, Risto can't score points anymore, but at least he's good defensively, when the Flyers have two different veteran dmen making $1m or less with better defensive results in similar third pairing minutes.
If Ristolainen retired today and went back to Finland, the Flyers could plug Braun back in as the the third pairing RHD and immediately be a better team. But because of the massive contract Fletcher gave him, they have to play him.

Goals against per 60 minutes at 5on5
Ristolainen - 2.89
Provorov - 2.68
Seeler - 2.61
DeAngelo - 2.54
Zamula - 2.42
Sanheim - 2.45
York - 2.16
Braun - 2.09 |

No question. Braun and Seeler would make a better 3rd pair. The only issue is Braun might wear down some over a full season. The Flyers now have a 3rd pair defenseman they're now paying 5M a year that they gave up a 1st and a 2nd round pick for. I'd rather have Haag. The other laughable narrative is that the Flyers have improved defensively. They haven't. Still one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They just have quality goaltending. |

Naw, as long as they didn't buy up a bunch of UFA years it would have stayed around $3-4M per. |

Wow, you’d think Ristolainen wasn’t apart of the streak at all.
I don’t know. I kind of live in a world where defensemen defend. DeAngelo never does anything to make me feel comfortable in his own end. Case and point the opening goal against scored by Pasternak. Ristolainen in my opinion isn’t a perfect player and he’s gonna see added negative stats when he’s on the ice and a perfect shot like Zacha was able to pull off on the second goal. I’m still more comfortable with him on the ice than his overcommitting defensive partner.
I guess my question becomes, because a defenseman can generate offense from the blue line and can’t defend, are they a good defenseman? |

his two year deal was for 3.25. if he signed a 7 year deal like boldy this would've been higher than 4 mil.
if he played lights out than the bridge is a risk. but thought it worked for both sides well.

I’ve heard the same except that they are speaking specifically of Risto over the last month, not the whole season thus far. It’s a small sample and really best hope that he can find a way to excel in a #5 role and PK because that contract isn’t tradable currently.

I have a hard time seeing a guy coming off his first full season turning down $18-24M over 6-years.
The Flyers were trying to be cute and time it so Sanny would come back up for contract right after Nisky's expired and right before Seattle expansion.

If you see management suck-ups trying to tell you that Ristolainen only being -6 playing sheltered minutes on the third pairing means that he has been fixed or is better than he used to be, remember that just a few years ago in Buffalo Ristolainen was only -2 on the league's 25th best team/22nd best defense. But he also scored 33 points in 69 games, with 23 of them at ES, and he averaged 22:48 per game as their #1 dman.
