Curious what his real opinion is. If he's no longer down on him and wants to extended him, that's fine to admit.
Where to go next with him is an interesting topic. - Lunaion
Seriously, I've been down on olofsson at times.
You know he's one of my underdogs though......
I think it's gonna be a serious $ crunch with the next deal and olo may price himself out.
I would probably play his contract out. Especially if we somehow make the playoffs this year and surely next season.
Maybe it seems like a wasted asset, but he was only a 7th round pick.
If he goes ufa, maybe he stays in buffalo?
And
Maybe we could both be nicer to each other. This shouldn't be so painful , for either of us 🤝 |

If Krebs ends up with 12 goals and 15 assists in his first full season in the NHL are we happy? - The_Inkwell
If he does it on a checking line, with almost no PP time, yes.

Trading him for good value after a strong second half is an ideal scenario, imo. Trading recent 1st rounders is less than ideal.
Could just let him play out his deal, let the kids develop next year. Not sure how smart that would be. - Lunaion
Seems like we agree, strangely I hadn't read your post in reference to playing out olofsson's deal.
If they get excellent value, everything is forsale right?

I really like krebs and that line.
Donnie starts them often at home. Sets the tone.
Not sure what the tone really is..... |

I don't like that plan, but it is an option. The timing kind of works, but the asset management sucks.
I also don't want to bring back this bottom 6. It's not a jab, it's just a hockey opinion. I like their prospects and I'm ready to start moving on to them next season. |

I don't love Krebs there, but I'm sorta OK with it, given the situation.
If he's 4C next year, I have a problem with it.

I agree with the asset management, but the Sabres have plenty of prospects / picks to offset one move.
Let's say we're 6 points out next tdl, what's olo's value?
Maybe a 1st , probably a 2nd and 4th?
If we're in the hunt, keep him IMO.
Sabres probably need to choose between girgs and okposo. I still think the Sabres need for their leadership. One or the other.
Anderson will be gone too.
*met Derrick roy on the way out to our cars. Nice guy, had a nice chat with him and his mustache. Some of the conversation was about his mustache ☝️ |

Krebs is gonna be twice the player
2x krebs = girgensons |

Playoffs are the expectation next year. Selling at the deadline shouldn't enter the equation. This is year 5 of VO. This summer is time to make a decision.
I think this is already Tuch, Dalhin, and Cozen's team and the leadership of the old guys is overblown.

If you trust what they are building, you should have more faith in who they are building around.
Does one more year of the old guys really change much?

21 goals for a 7th round pick. Imagine that. - Boss34
Interested in your perspective as to why being a 7th round pick matters after almost 4 full NHL seasons. |

I was just setting up a senario where olo would be moved. What are we getting in return this offseason?
Youngest team in the league, definitely need some nhl vets to show them the ropes. Girgensons/ okposo ate perfect. A couple buffalo guys. |

When it comes down to letting a player play out his contract into free agency, draft position/ asset management may be considered.
You picked some dude in the 7th, you'll get 5 solid nhl seasons , could be deemed a success.
You lose purposely for the 2nd overall pick, you feel like you need to absolutely get something in return.
I'm talking about sam..... |

Old guys get older , especially okposo.
Let's internal leadership to work it's way out.
I'm sure they learned from anointing eichel captain too early |

If they don't make a decision on Olofsson beyond his current deal this coming offseason, I don't see how they can trade him at the trade deadline next season, unless the team is far back of the playoffs. |

Hard not to read into not extending these guys already.

I see Mitts traded in a package for a d-man and Olofsson used as an “own rental” for next season.
Just a hunch

What? Over the summer several posters here wanted to trade our 1st ++ for a poopty goalie. My opinion was and still is that Gibson sucks, and another poster now agrees with that assessment. Nothing at all to do with 2 years from now, or whatever it is you're trying to say. |
