I mean isnt Quinn an easy replacement for Vo, so shouldn't we max value while we can... the longer we wait the more that goes down imo - hubie
I'd move him this offseason. A strong finish won't change that and makes it a lot easier to move him. They've already drafted his replacements.

Who's gonna win tonight? - Hatboro_Swords
Make no mistake, we are the underdog. Besides being very good, Dallas appears to also be getting very goaltending too. For whatever reason, I think we're going to convince them to play a horse race with us tonight.

You're acting like there's a huge difference here.
VO is a team worst regular F at 44.7% xGF% and a team worst at 40.3% GF%. He scores and allows above expected.
Glad it's showing some signs of improvement with Jost recently, but the underlying question here is where you go next year. - Lunaion
The difference is the narratives are simply not true
“They can’t score at even strength” - not true
“They are a black hole defensively”- not true
I’m all for the what do we do going forward discussions. But we really need to stop pretending they’re bad players. They haven’t been in 20 games now since they got a competent steady center |

In the future, yes, it appears so. Quinn does not yet have a shot like Vic though. We shall see. Vic is the most interesting conversation on the team right now. He should be able to return a competent NHL defensman on his own, but that drops the 2nd best shot off the team and our best scorer not on the top line. If Vic were to bring back a defenseman, our third line replaces him with either Asplund or Vinnie. Not great. |

What team does Fangio work for?
Hint it’s Philly. He’s the consultant of the defense.
They run neither a 3-4 or 4-3. They run a combo quarters defense.

How about this: instead of hiring retreads like Fangio, let's go with an up-and-coming defensive assistant who has a fresh approach? |

Basically the whole team is positive +/-. Only 3 players have glaring negative #'s. They've been better as of late. See if they can keep it up.
The second bold is completely not true and just shows how much recency-bias plays into this fan base. Olofsson has been good for 8-9 games. Same with Mitts. Jost did not fix that line. They've only started playing a full game of hockey until recently.
If Jost is the reason they've started actually playing it only took 20 games. |

For the better part of 3 months, both of your narratives were true. Finding a way to get that line to break even has been a challenge. Doesn't mean it's the individuals, could easily be the combination.
I'm glad it's working better now. The difference in effort at both ends of the ice is striking. There are 4 1st round forwards coming.

There is also a 6 year age difference. With a development team like this if we can get a mid pair D man I think it would help this team a ton. |

VO doesn’t play goalie or defense.
I think we need to stop pretending that on ice goals against are equal to on ice goals for in terms of evaluating forwards
Olofsson is much more likely to be responsible for a goal for than a goal against
On ice expected goals against per 60
Olofsson - 2.73
Mittelstadt 2.72
Selke Rasmus Asplund - 3.27
Tage Thompson 3.14
Dylan Cozens 2.76
They aren’t giving up more quality than other top 9 forwards. They’re getting worse goaltending when they’re on the ice - sbroads24
Only if the inverse is true.
Did you compare level of competition.
Scoring 30 but giving up 55 is ok in your book? Especially when nearly everyone else on the team has the inverse except Mitys, Olo and Bryson? |

He absolutely did.
Good scrap.
Not sure how I feel about the extra punch while on the ice though.
We could use that in this lineup. |

Just like we could use Vic Fangio to install a 3-4 defense, right? |

Giving up is not =to scoring for forwards. Not sure how this can be argued. |

Remember all summer when you kept bringing up olofsson's 5 x 5 numbers and I told you he would improve.
You just kept hammering it over and over and over.
Boy you were wrong 🙄 |

Connor McDavid
On ice Goals for per 60 - 3.22
On ice goals against per 60 - 3.04
I guess Connor McDavid only provides a slightly positive goal impact |

Olofsson beat Gibson low stick side on that mini breakaway and I just don’t think the NHL has 5 other players in the league that would have the cajones to try that. |

No better place to put a puck than low just over the pad. My favourite shot selection. Add in the velocity of a Olofsson shot and damn near impossible to save.
I don't think cajones has anything to do with it either. Players are dumb and go high glove way to often. |
