He said 34 yr olds can’t play anymore..I gave you someone who is 37 and can still play… you take the point and spin it however you want. It doesn’t mean you’re not mentally retarded and so we go on acting like children 🤷🏻‍♂️
- Slimtj100

Yeah... he didn't. This is the literal exchange.

He’s also 34………..
- nyrangers9479

So? Patrice Bergeron is 37

He is the exception not the rule.

People constantly forget because his Cap hit is $10.5 mill, but his salary the last 2 years has been only $6.9 mill. I don't think his next contract is going to be as high as some believe, especially with a league-wide Cap crunch and his poor numbers this season. We will see...
- TommyGTrain

I’d like to think that people are smart enough to realize that every player’s situation is different. On a bad team so many things go into having a bad season. And like I said he cannot be motivated right now playing there, here it would be a completely different story. But here Iam trying to defend a guy who has 1200 career pts It’s insanity

Idk. You have to ask him. What I'm telling you is not to compare Patrice Bergeron to Patrick Kane. One is still very good despite being 37. The other is not despite being 34. Again, that's just the facts.

He’s implying that 34 yr olds aren’t good anymore..but we both agree that’s not true as evidenced by our Bergy exchange

I sorta disagree. Kane is bad on a bad team. I'm not saying going to a good team would make him great again, but I really feel that he is being cast as some poop hockey player when he is most definitely not. No way he lost it over night. Look at what Karlsson is doing. Kane will bounce back for sure, maybe even this season.

Is he what the Rangers need? I don't think so. But he would make the right team better, potentially much better. He has game breaking ability. But he is also a liability on the defensive end. The Rangers already have that in Panarin.

Bergeron is one of my favorite players, ever, I hate that he is a career Bruin. But he is not in the same tier as Kane on the offensive side. I am always surprised to see that Bergeron is not at a PPG pace whenever I look his stats up. It's everything else that he does so well. He's the perfect player with the game on the line and you need that D-zone draw win. Kane is the guy you want out there with 4 seconds left in the O-zone.

I do think that getting Kane could have a profound impact on Panarin. It would definitely be much watch TV, good or bad.

He did have that for almost all of his career. Not this year.

I haven't watched him much but his stats certainly indicate it is lacking or not there. I think if he were traded you see more of old Kane, not this season's version. But if he's hurt or compromised in any way he won't be heading anywhere at the deadline. At least I hope he doesn't land in NY because a hurt Kane is the last thing they need bringing them down.

Yea want no part of an injured Kane. The fly in the ole ointment. He came back tho. I doubt the hawks would play him if it was something overly concerning

Maybe. But for people that love to discount stats and love intangibles, seems to me comparing Bergeron to Kane at their current ages would be a bad idea, based off just the counting stats of course. Big if true James.

I think by that rationale Kane is also the exception to the norm. He's having a down year this year. It's not a trend until is spills over into next year. Hopefully if that is the case it isn't here.

It would be a bad idea unless you are talking only in advanced stats. Kane has outperformed Bergeron in most seasons the two have participated in together, Except for this one, and it's still close.

Bergeron is an advanced stats monster, but points also win games. Their +/- is pretty telling in that respect (bad stat I know). They are polar opposites and a team needs both types.

If you ask me who I wanted I take Bergeron right now. But in most cases/seasons I take Kane, for better or worse.

Just to be clear, I don't hate advanced stats. I just hate some of the people who like to vomit them on twitter.
