If he was on the last year of this deal, yes, they could move him. I don't think another team wants the 5 mil hit for a 4,5, 6 dman. - Hextall271
depends if they have the right partner. He can clearly help a PP which you need come playoff time. With 1 year left he can be dealt next year imo. For what? Well we shall see.

It was due to 3 factors. How good of a overall defenseman that Slavin is. Canes are a strong possession and defensive team and Angelo's offensive ability. They could hid his deficiencies in Carolina. This was predicted to you by many including myself as you argued that Angelo was improving defensively. Tomahawk even predicted to you in the few days after the trade that you would continue to push that he is better defensively until it reaches a point where it becomes undeniable.
Do you honestly believe that Ristolainen purposely stifled his offense? - MJL
Well, your predictions were of course wrong, since not once this year have I even mentioned DeAngelo, other than to state I like his tenacity. I have not once defended DeAngelo's defense, so go right ahead and show a post from me this year where I discussed it. Regarding Risto, I know you hate him but have at least some objectivity. Risto is finally working with really good NHL coaches and had to accept that he needed to improve his defensive game. To Risto's credit, he has accepted the coaching and Torts has even said he has been extremely coachable this season. It takes time for a player to revamp his game and thus its completely natural for a player's offense to suffer. Heck last year you argued the same thing with Frost when Yeo was working with him to correct his play away from the puck. Just like we have seen Frost's offensive game come back, we are currently seeing the same thing with Risto. Its simply blind ignorance to not acknowledge this. |

A 3rd pairing defenseman does not play 17+ minutes a night and perform as a primary penalty killer. Stop repeating the fact-less spew by some on this forum. |

When he is getting the 5th most ice time among the defense, it kinda does.

no it doesn't, the Flyers are playing essentially a 5 man defensive unit, with Seeler filling in the rest. This is due to the fact that Flyers do not have a real top-paring unit. Last night however I acknowledge that Risto and Seeler played equal minutes and were clearly 3rd pairing. |

he is a 3rd pairing man. That is it no matter how much nonsense that comes out of your mouth. Nothing in his play or analytics suggest otherwise.
He plays 17 on this team because they suck . Out of necessity. Flyers are in the bottom half of the league on the pk, something to really hang your hat on.
Name me a few contending teams where he plays 17 minutes a night. 17 isn't even a lot.

Aren't you from Boston?
Then you should know about Derek Forbort, plays on the 3rd-pair with Clifton but averages 18+mins a night because he is a primary PKer.
There are other examples like him. |

I still believe Provy is as good as gone. Maybe not at the TDL, but at the draft. There's no way Comcast wanted that bad publicity he recently brought them. They don't care about icing a competitive team for passionate fans. Money and ensuring they reflect well on the mothership company is what matters.. - Hextall271

You did it at 10:57 this morning.
" I thought he had got better defensively and he stated he was working hard on that part of his game"
Ristolainen has not revamped his game. Not one bit. He has regressed as a player.
I was proven correct with Frost.

Ok, the very next night on 11/1/22 the Flyers lost in OT to the Rangers, and on that night TK, Hayes and Provorov were on the ice when the Rangers won in OT.
https://www.naturalstattr...eason=20222023&game=20149
And the next OT loss on 11/15 the Flyers lost with TK, Hayes and DeAngelo on the ice

Want me to keep going or are you going to finally state you are wrong!?! - jd250
There isn't anything I can obviously do to stop you from keeping on going. No matter how many times you've been proven wrong.

I find he's regressed a lot in the new year. His defensive gaffes seem more frequent to me and always seem to end up in GA. Earlier in the year, I thought he was a little better and was producing more/moving the puck more effectively. Really struggling now. - Hextall271
I thought he started off really well defensively. At least better than I had expected. But now yeah, he's just plain brutal. |

Oh my god, this again…
Here’s the problem with this argument.
When Torts over uses DeAngelo, which he is, we all call it out as a problem. It needs to change.
When making an argument against Ristolainen and how he’s being used, suddenly he’s being handled perfectly. He’s a third pair defenseman with the fifth most ice time among defenders, when we all know DeAngelo should be used a lot less. I would argue Ristolainen sees much tougher minutes than DeAngelo, Seeler and York. |

TDA's minutes seem to be pretty balanced between all levels of competition.
Risto actually seems to shade more toward low tier (gritensity) comp.

Sure but DeAngelo plays minutes he shouldn’t. Over 20 minutes a game and put in defensive situations he shouldn’t be in. Risto’s tough minutes include starting PK and closing out games next to Provorov. I would love to see York getting more ice time short handed or holding a one goal lead but he isn’t, Ristolainen sees those tough minutes. DeAngelo should be seeing less minutes. |

One could make the argument that Risto is playing minutes he shouldn't too. Ditto Provy, Sanheim, on down the line. Braun last season.
That's what happens when your team was built without a legit #1 guy, and your #2 guy is on perma-LTIR. |

OK, and every one of those 5 are averaging almost or over 20 minutes a night (York 19:24) while Risto is averaging just over 18.
It's quite clear who the third pair guy is along with Seeler.

thought York and Provy looked good last night, and I think York saw more time on PK. York is turning into a good story, tippett and frost also |
