After a bad camp and pre season, it’s nice to know the kid has a good head on his shoulders and put in the work to get back to where he needed to be and is now a key contributor on the back end |

Yeah, with all the negative this year, it's nice to see the progress of York along with Tippett Frost and Ersson. Need to find a way to draft some top end talent and clear the cap but there are some gamers in the group we have.
About York, he seems like a kid that always works hard. I've read that he works out like a fiend in the offseason, so this doesn't shock me. It's no piece of cake learning to play D in the NHL on a poor squad. Kudos on this progress.. |

We have an amazing coaching staff down in the AHL. They were able to take a player that was deemed to not be ready to play in the NHL and in a short period of time. Coached him up to where he can play 20+ minutes a game on the top pairing. Just an amazing coaching job.

And you clearly don’t understand what actually happened. It’s about the player finding his game, building his confidence, and then being physically and mentally prepared once the call up happens. No magic coaching[/img] |

unless Brown can win a large portion of his D zone draws, he needs to be sat |

This team is not the right place for a struggling young player who can go down and play big minutes to establish his game in AHL |

in preseason he fell down and a goal was scored, kind of reminds me of his pre-season, he was mentally strong enough, put the work in and to his credit is back and better

IMO, York just had a couple of bad preseason games, I don't think he ever lost his confidence. He's always been low-key unflappable.

So it had nothing to do with coaching? I see. Of course, he wouldn't have been capable of doing that at the NHL level. Was he mentally and physically prepared for the 30 games he played the previous season? Must of somehow been temporarily lost over the summer. |

Exactly. It was on overreaction by the team. Should've started in the NHL. We have the sample of games last year and the games when he came back as proof of the mistake. Luckily, not a costly one.

is 30 game a small sample size? Also under a prior coaching staff. He was coming into camp on a clean slate. Got beat out. It happens. Except it Cliff.

You keep coming back to this nonsense about last year. It’s a young player, playing defense, just because he played well last year doesn’t mean he can’t have a stall or even step back in his progression. He was struggling this pre season, the correct call was made. You know who else looked good for half a season at a young age , Phil Myers. How’s he doing? |

I think Seeler finally replaced DeAngelo last night on the PK, which I think is great. |

How did he perform at camp since you were there everyday? Can you provide a summary? Thanks.

His game was struggling, can’t deny that. Whether he lost his confidence or not I guess the player can only know, but his play was bad. The team made the correct call, there is no reason to force the kid in the NHL when we had the option of sending him down and him playing himself into a better spot. |

Lol this is an accurate sample size here but Morgan frost was only a first year pro after 100 games across 3 seasons. You see how this works |

One could make the argument that Risto is playing minutes he shouldn't too. Ditto Provy, Sanheim, on down the line. Braun last season.
That's what happens when your team was built without a legit #1 guy, and your #2 guy is on perma-LTIR. - Tomahawk
You know what I mean. We’ve seen Provorov be successful logging heavy minutes in all situations. Whatever minutes DeAngelo was seeing last season in Carolina are the minutes he should be seeing now.
The Ristolainen argument just seems more about blind dislike for the player. Most of it based on his time in Buffalo. In my opinion we didn’t get that same player. He isn’t in that same role and mercifully so. Buffalo was using Ristolainen as if he was the second coming of Shea Weber. He clearly isn’t.
As each game goes on, the argument is something different where we’re splitting hairs. Before was the lack of offense. Now he’s posting points. Giveaways don’t seem to be a problem, he’s making simple decisions. I know not many think much of the plus/minus stat but he was holding idle at minus 4 for along time, until he ended yesterday’s game as a plus 1, as DeAngelo’s plus/minus drops every game. Risto’s positioning doesn’t seem to be anything special but not hurting him. |

Players have bad games. He put up a couple of stinkers in a row at the worst possible time (being waiver-exempt and Zamula playing ok).
Plus if Torts doesn't fall in love watching Attard take Ross Johnston punches to the face, does York get sent down? Probably not. |

There is no such thing as a hockey system predicated on accountability. What defensive coverage does he play? Neutral zone checking. What breakout system? Neutral zone regroups? PK coverage. Let's talk systems. - MJL
Not sure I think you can dismiss the importance of accountability. Not a system per se but no plan, system, team or organization can function without it. I happen to agree that accountability is something JT has made a mandate and that is one of the reasons his team is playing better than the last few years.
As for disagreements with his system, and how he approaches, office, defense, transition, etc., those are all fair game to me. With respect to the overtimes, I think, using two defenseman is a reflection of his lack of confidence in the offensive skill set that he has right now. If you don’t have that confidence, you at least want a group out there that can stop the pot getting the net. It’s a fair enough criticism to say that with a 1–7 record, you might want to reevaluate that. |

Well having bad games when jobs are on the line isn’t a good recipe to make a team, is it? |

I think these are all good points. In the final analysis, it is not the player’s fault that we decided to overpay him. For every poster on this board, if someone came to us, and want to over pay us for our respective jobs, we would say yes. The fault for that situation lies entirely on Chuckes and his man crush.
