I agree with you on this but believe it or not, most analytic experts believe that statistically, faceoffs have little impact on possession. - MJL
I could see that for the better teams, not for the mid level teams |

Wow the Panthers, went all in last season and now don't appear to be a playoff team
Hopefully next season they finish 11th from the bottom |

A good example of that was the Avs last year. Worst in the league in faceoffs. Good puck possession teams can get the puck back. Faceoffs matter most on special teams or late in the game trying to get the equalizer or protecting a lead. |

And give those minutes to whom? You really want Risto playing 22mins a game instead? York? Scratch Tony and bring Braun back in to play 18mins?
There's problems with every alternative. The puzzle is missing pieces.
I feel like you and jd250 are just being edgy/contrarian with regards to RR.
He's objectively bad. 10-years of observations and data show he's bad. He was still bad when he was scoring 40-points, that's how bad he was. He was bad last season here. He was bad earlier this season playing on the top line.
For the first time in his career a coach finally realized that he's better off as a 3rd-pairing guy, and he's settled down with the lighter load. He doesn't need more minutes. - Tomahawk
My only response in bold is, Ristolainen is not bad right now and it’s the only argument I need. Running and hiding behind old data from a team that was clearly misusing him is nonsense.
As for the minutes, I’ve said clearly, give York more of a push seeing tougher situations. Penalty kill and closing out one goal leads. Also there is no reason why Seeler cannot kill penalties more regularly. Those minutes can easily be taken away from DeAngelo.
I can’t make this more clear, I feel like I’m repeating myself. |

That's the thing. Statistically with a large data pool, faceoffs don't affect possession much. However, in key situations, they certainly can affect the game.

King was wanted in Canada and arrested when he crossed the border. That's why he was replaced in the Moondogs.

You did it at 10:57 this morning.
" I thought he had got better defensively and he stated he was working hard on that part of his game"
Ristolainen has not revamped his game. Not one bit. He has regressed as a player.
I was proven correct with Frost. - MJL
Regarding Frost, its funny how you apparently have completed your assessment of Frost while Torts, his staff and the entire front office has not. But going by your opinion, what is Morgan Frost? Is he a legitimate top 6 forward of a good NHL team? Mind you Frost has 24 points in 48 games this year, and 8 of those points came against Arizona. Scoring 0.5 pts/game unfortunately does not make Frost a top 6 forward on a good team in the NHL, sorry to inform you. Frost may be a 3rd line forward in this league, which makes him at least in the top 9. OK, maybe he ends up there. But I ask you, if that is all he is, was it worth trading Brayden Schenn, who was and is a legitimate top 6 forward on a good team? I think not.
Right now Morgan Frost is a fast but smallish forward who is below average in faceoffs, frequently gets bumps off the puck, has had a history of lazy play away from the puck, and scores points at the rate of a 3rd line player. But hey, at least he is playing in the NHL! Well, at least for now. |

Agreed! I like what I'm seeing out of York and yes, keep playing him in tougher situations. I know it's cool by most here to hate on Risto, but he's been fine overall.

And you clearly don’t understand what actually happened. It’s about the player finding his game, building his confidence, and then being physically and mentally prepared once the call up happens. No magic coaching - ClaudeFather[/img]
What actually happened according to Charlie O'Connor was coming into camp, York was petrified of John Tortorella because of his perception of the type of coach Torts was. York presumed Torts wanted York to be sound defensively and focused all his efforts on his defensive game. What York did not know was Torts had heard about the offensive skill York possessed and was looking forward to seeing York show off his offensive side during camp. It did not happen. As Torts pout it, York should be able to take over a game but I just don't see that in his game. So come the start of the season, Torts sent York down and asked him to really work on that part of this game and free himself up to roam around the ice and make more plays. York to his credit did that and when the opportunity arose was called up. Torts has obviously been happy ever since.
This story also demonstrates how Torts has changed as a coach over the years. Torts has realized he had to change in order to still be a viable NHL coach, and for that Torts deserves a lot of credit. |

I don't think piling more on a rookie and a replacement level player is really gonna make much of a difference here.
