Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I’m thinking that Horvat taking #14 is an indication that he’s at the very least considering a long-term extension. Lamoriello acquired J-G Pageau without permission to first talk about an extension and got one done in a matter of days.

Wait until Beau scores 5 goals in his first 8 games...... - keaner17
I would be happy for him. Couldn’t be more obvious it wasn’t happening here. |

Now the narrative will be that Beau was the key piece that got us Horvat because he's so good and valuable - eichiefs9

What does that have to do with signing a contract? |

I don't know. I assume it conforms to Lou's low-number mandate and that leads Gord to believe Horvat is willing to assimilate and stick around.
Hence the tinfoil hat gif |

Was wondering the exact same thing. Maybe if he chose #1,200,358 for a uniform number that would indicate he wasn't signing??? |

I really wonder how many players are out there that don’t want to play for Lou? |

Well 53 wasn't available. How is this an indication? |

Maybe if he wasn't signing his jersey would have just read:
HORVAT

Yeah, but JGP sign long term after taking #44 so the low number BS doesn’t hold water. I would have been happier to see him get #53. |

Final question on this topic, can someone report when Horvat arrives in NY and reports for duty please?
Then I’ll know it’s real

Well 14 is a derivative of 53 so there's that. (5 (1+4) 3 (4-1). Could have gone 41 too but wanted to appease Lou to prove he was committed to staying. That to me is proof that Bo is signing and Lou isn't done yet. |

Saying I'd rather have Ovechkin as in...he wasn't available then....and neither was Horvat. This team is NOT the same as that team. They are older, slower and are missing a coach that may have made chicken salad out of chicken poop. Adding Horvat only does not suddenly make us the 2020-21 Islanders + Horvat.
I'm not saying we won't be good or even turn things around, but by no means do I think this suddenly makes us a contender - keaner17
I get it without having Trotz as coach playing a more defensive style but this team is similar with some more experience. This team also has a goaltender who just set the record in shutouts. The teams that went to the conference finals didn’t have “this”Ilya Sorokin….and a hot goaltender is a game changer. Add to that a legitimate goal scorer and we have something here. |

I think I read somewhere that Horvats agent is the same as 4 of the islanders. You have to think there’s been discussion about an extension. The isles certainly have had the money since Tavares’ 10.5 per for 8 years was turned down and never spent |

Another (perhaps minor) factor in the #Isles decision to make the Horvat acquisition: I’ve heard Wahlstrom is out for the season due to his injury. - eichiefs9
To me just one more reason they should have been sellers |

Martin, Cizikas, can’t remember who the other two were. I love these little factoids that amount to a whole lot of nothing more often then not we all see online. The speculation is hysterical. Not saying Horvat isn’t signing in anyway but the reasons he may that people throw up on Twitter are hysterical. |

I only think it’s relevant because to me it backs up the theory of some off the record discussions. If nothing else Lou has had a modicum of success with extensions. |

At 80 something years of age Lou isn’t gonna be around long enough for a rebuild. In fairness we all complained for years about scoring and he addressed it. Nothing that was given up wasn’t replaceable. 1C’s aren’t easily acquired. |
