They’re a lot closer to being a contender now then they were 5 hours ago. This trade wasn’t just about this year. Even though you think he only has a couple of good years left I think many will tell you at 29-30 years old guys can still get better. Nelson is a perfect example. According to you his best days should be behind him yet he is putting up very good numbers again. Look at Bergeron and Marchand and I’m sure there are a bunch of others still producing into their mid 30’s. The way these guys take care of themselves I just think you’re really underestimating their shelf lives lol but all good I respect your decision we don’t have to agree on everything. This trade could blow up in their faces but I wouldn’t bet on it. That’s just me lol
- Vukota

Yeah that’s just not the norm. Marchand and Bergeron are more exceptions to that rule then anything else. I see this as a move you make to win the cup. I don’t see that happening with this lineup and we have nothing to trade which to me is a problem in itself. I get trying to get a cup with Sorokin in his prime in fact I’m on board with it. I just don’t think this was the year to do it especially when we have no way of adding anything else. It’s hockey you never know. If we win the cup I will happily eat crow.

Here is my prediction. Horvat is a massive upgrade over Beau. He excels in every category the isles suck in lol. Now you throw him on a line with Barzal and watch them both take off. This trade fires the room up. They get healthy out of the break and go on a run. They haven’t had even close to a full lineup in months. They aren’t done yet and if they fall short you still have him long term. He is signing long term I’m not worried about that. Do they still have work to do? Absolutely but you still need those other pieces and how can anybody say this isn’t a big piece? They have one of the top 3 goalies in the world. They need more fire power up front. Maybe Lou gets a bad contract like Bailey out and makes a move in free agency. Who knows but my point is Horvat is a huge piece and for some reason I’m kind of shocked some of you are unhappy. Either way it’s going to be a long rebuild so why not go for it? It’s not a finished product but it’s a lot closer today then it was yesterday and to me that’s a positive

I think the issue is that Bo seems like a Nelson type player and the contract is going to be very high. The other factor is Lou needed to be aggressive two years ago. A third factor is a lot of fans have lost faith in Lou and are not sure he should be the GM going forward.
- ses111

So the guy hasn’t played one game for the isles and you know what he is based on what? A post from a Canucks fan? Lol cmon man let’s see his game for a little while before you label him. Fair enough? Also adding another Brock Nelson is a problem how exactly? For the record I don’t think he is anything like Nelson

If they get a top 12 pick then next year's is completely unprotected but if they extend horvat the move was worth it. Yes there is concern he will get old quick but he's a true #1 center and the isles needed that along with what he does in the dot and on the pp.

Why is it just about this year? It’s ok to grab piece B before you get piece A no? They are going to be players in free agency the next few years. They’ll be ways to get other pieces. If signs long term it would be great to win it this year but next year and then next years after are still up for grabs. Let Go!! Lol

Marchand and Bergeron have the passion a lot of Islander players lack. I'll need to see Bo play a few games, but some of the Nelson type comments have me worried. Hopefully Bo clicks with Barzal and this team goes on a run. Anything is possible, I do not see a long playoff run for this team. Making the playoffs will be challenging enough.

I don't know about that but he is a helluva hockey player. I'm excited to see how he plays without the weight of being a captain in a mad hockey market.

I think Lou made the deal because he's still mad he traded Bo for Corey Schneider.

Horvat had more assists in his last game 4 then Bailey has had in 12 weeks 🤣🤣🤣

The more I think about this, it’s kind of a win-win. We either go on a run or we suck. If we suck, the TD is still over a month away, we can definitely get assets back and our pick for this year is protected. If we go on a run, then we’re all happy. And, we hope we get past the 8 seed because Boston is a team I don’t want to play in the 1st round.

Still, the wild card is obviously Räty.

He may love it on the island as a lot of players do once they see what it has to offer.

It's true we have not seen Bo play as an Islander yet, but going by his numbers gives you an idea. This contract year does not seem to be the norm. Brock is a nice player, but he can also go into long funks and the Islanders need more of a 70-80 point type player for the 1st line. I know hard to get but even harder when you miss on top FA's constantly.

Horvat isn’t the same player as Nelson. I say that being a Nelson fan.

Horvat and Nelson play the same position, that’s where the comparison pretty much ends.

So who are these mythical young stud forwards all under the age of 25 who are available and who could be had for guys like Beau Raty and a 1st? I’ll answer that nobody is lol. You said it yourself they haven’t landed a big UFA so what do you do? You trade. They get a 27 yr old stud center just entering his prime for a pick, prospect and most likely 3rd liner borderline top 6 forward. Sign me the fack up.

You can’t build a winner just adding high priced FA’s(who never sign here) without integrating young cheap talent into the lineup. We have none and unless we get lucky with late round picks we have none for the foreseeable future. He literally fire bombed whatever we had

Yeah that’s correct but different players. They both also had career years in their contract years

Maybe that’s it

To be fair JG was available. Maybe he did not have interest in the Islanders, but Lou never contacted him. I hope this trade works out. Maybe it's the struggle this team has gone through the last few years it's tough to have faith. Maybe it's the shock of a big Islander move we've not seen in a while? This is all I got.
