Was Ellis healthy during that playoff run right before he was traded? - hello it's me 2050
Yeah, he played over 25 min a game and had 5 points in 6 games.

That would be a good trade but LA would probably get Chuck to take Cal Petersen.

Exactly. Based on the direction the flyers decided to take the team it was a risk worth taking. Not one I would have though. He clearly had some wear and tear on his body. Nashville made the smart play.
Who the hell knows whats even wrong with this joker anyway. Most baffling injury in all of sports history. Such a farce

I believe his injury that year was a knuckle or hand. Not his groin area. wasn't nashville also looking to dump salary as the Weber situation was up in the air and that would've had cap implications?
with his style of play i don't think anyone thought he was playing every game, but to have a career ending injury 4 games in was not expected.
yes he had a great playoff run |

Considering IMO he was signed to replace what they lost when they traded Ghost, I also have to include the draft capital they traded with Ghost in to the equation.
Its insane.
Add it all up they traded Ghost, two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th for Angelo. (they received a 7th that cancels out the 7th they traded with Ghost) - MBFlyerfan
Why stop at ghost? Why not go back to drafting Patrick and not one of the two d available that would have addressed their #1 pp and #1 dman issue both of which have plagued this team since Pronger got hurt? Had they drafted one of those two guys, their constant attempts at reshaping their d simply would not be necessary. Fletcher has done a poor job with this d, but 27 royally screwed him over. It’s really simple had 27 drafted the right guy Ellis is not here and this team is in a much better place today.

There is fiction and there is reality. Reality is that Hextall set up Fletcher with a solid base to build on. The best players on the team are players that Hextall acquired. To blame Hextall for the ill advised moves that Fletcher has made is asinine. Fletcher screwed himself along with team management. Hextall has been gone for over 4 years. Reality is that when Hextall took over, the team was in awful cap position with no prospects. Reality is that Hextall put the team in better position than it was when he took over. Reality is that Fletcher has crashed this team.

Isn’t it at all possible that the Flyers have overrated Sanheim?
Maybe he is the guy they should move?
His contract is a concern for a guy that doesn’t really excite me on the ice w a min left up a goal, can’t run a top pp unit, isn’t as effective 3 on 3 as he should be and his offense long before playing w TDA has been wildly inconsistent. He is what he is a 4 or 5 dman that even though he can fly and has a nice shot off the transition just does not use those tools consistently enough to be a game changer. This season he’s been their most underwhelming player outside of Farabee who has an excuse. Maybe the player needs to be accountable. Seems like everyone wants to blame the ills of the flyers on TDA and Risto.
Also if you don’t think Risto has played well the past month and a half or so you gotta do some serious self reflection and also seeing some games in person would prob help. Didn’t like the trade and still don’t, but he has been very good of late. |

I’m not even sure they overrated him, they just bent over backwards on his deal. They knew he wasn’t going on the PP. Guy somehow got the money and term from Chuckles. You can want to trade him but not many people are interested in that deal. |

Players are best judged over a large sample of games. I said the other day that Sanheim needs to raise his game. I agree completely with Bill that Sanheim and Angelo are not a good fit together. That does not completely absolve Sanheim but it's part of it.

Again, same thing. A player is best judged over a large sample of games. Ristolainen has had a couple of weeks where he has produced some offense and made some nice plays. It's nice to see the aggressiveness. Overall though he hasn't been very good. They had to take him out of the top 4 and demote him to the 3rd line to get any effectiveness out of him. Offering fallacies that you have here isn't going to change reality.

Phantoms had a strong game tonight.
TyFo is hot right now and olle is playing some damn good hockey.
Also glad to see Brink off to a strong start after missing so much time. What will he do when he is really in game shape and finally 100%? He's an exciting prospect to follow and I hope he hits his ceiling. The possibility of that is looking good!
Erason again with a strong game in net.
It really is fun to see these kids play some good hockey! We could have a couple if diamonds in the rough in our system... Let's hope so since we can't get ahold of elite talent with our middling standings |

Atkinson will be turning 34 before next season and he's coming off neck surgery. And if Coots ever comes back, he may never be the same.
So who replaces Provy and/or Hayes if you trade them?
Also, Cates is arbitration eligible. Torts is playing him near 20 mins a game on the 1st-line. Kid can leverage that for a significant pay bump.
And how much do Frost and York get? Flyers could force them into an affordable bridge... but that could come back to bite them on the 3rd-contract. It might be smarter to lock them in for more years now, rather than later.
And they gotta start thinking about budgeting money for Hart and TK's inevitable extensions.
I don't see how the cap picture really improves in the foreseeable future unless there's a major influx of viable talent on ELCs. That puts incredible pressure to fast-track Brink, Cutter, etc, which increases the likelihood of (frank)ing up their development.
Call me a pessimist tho. - Tomahawk
There is no replacement for Provey currently, that is why the Flyers should not move him unless they are blown away with an offer. Hayes on the other hand I feel the Flyers have players that can fill that spot and fill it better than Hayes is. |

But its not a couple of weeks, its been 40 games, ever since Risto came back from being scratched. His offense has come back since the past 16 games, but even before that he was playing well defensively, killing plays and putting is good minutes on the PK, and was starting to take risks offensively. Risto's contract will always be overpriced, but his play this year is the least of the Flyers' problems.

So then you keep him and runs the risk of him leaving in free agency or overpaying him to stay? no thanks.
Team has been bad with him. Need to turn the page on most of these players.

Yes Hextall was fired ... isn't that interesting? The bottom line is both GMs Suck with a capital 'S'. Hextall deserved to be fired and Fletcher clearly was a bad hire that was completely due to this relationship with Clarke. I agree on one point, nothing will change unless the Flyers get a new set of senior advisors and remove Fletcher from the GM role. |

Simple question. Has RR been placed into a lesser role then previously.

Has Saint Ronnie done a better job in Pitt or in Phila? mind you both stops have been failures.
Taking a team that was so bad and making small improvements isnt some great shakes.

Yes so far. I think this is due to Shaw working with Risto to change his defensive game, so in these cases a player typically takes a step back to take a leap forward. I expect as the season moves on Risto will be playing more minutes, but right now he and Seeler are doing well together. Provey and York have also looked good together though it would be better if York was on the left side. The big problem right now is Sanhiem and DeAngelo, that pairing does not work, though I don't blame it all on DeAngelo; Sanheim is not very good either. |

Provey still has two years left after this year. No reason the Flyers can't keep him for another season and then trade him at the deadline in his final season. This gives the Flyers times to find a replacement. |

Do you think playing reduced minutes and not seeing the top lines plays a part in him playing "better"?

Not worth the risk. You move now or at the latest the summer. However they do not want to move him or others. Beyond comical at this point. They still think they can win with this group.

sure, but you can see late in games Risto is out their against the top players, especially if the Flyers are up or tied. Also, Risto has taken a bigger role on the PK so again he is playing against the other team's top players. There is no doubt he is being sheltered a bit as his game gets aligned to what Torts and Shaw want, and so far Torts has been consistent in his happiness of Risto's play since he has come back from being benched. |
