Frank Seravali just said Boesers value is a 2nd or 3rd IF we retain. Hence he has no value. I hate Brock but it may make sense to keep him for one more year and then see if he can build any value or buy him out. Team will suck next year regardless - CanuckDon
Schenn goes for a 2nd and it's great value. Boeser goes for a 2nd and it's no value. |

Dumb dumb. They have to retain. If they didn’t, he would be worth a second. Since no team will take on his full contract he would likely pass through waivers. Hence no value. Understand now ? |

Still tempting if you can get a 2nd for each of Boeser & Schenn though.

I’d do it. Who cares if we have Boesers contract on the books for a couple years as we won’t be contending. Who knows how management feels about it though. Morons (probably Aquilini) were worried about fan reaction to walking away from Boeser. What a (frank)ing braindead signing 🤮 |

We could probably trade him for nothing and not retain. But if 1m retained gets us a 2nd, i'd say do it. If it only gets us a 3rd, keep him. |

Yes maybe. Just clearing his contract would be a win. I agree, what’s the point in retaining for a 3rd. Spoon feed him easy minutes next year and see if he can recoup value.
Having to watch his pathetic efforts for another season will be a challenge |

Most teams see Boeser as being overpaid by approximately $1 million relative to his current production.
You actually think that he would pass through waivers because other teams feel he is worth 85% instead of 100%.
It doesn't say no team would take on his full contract. It says that retaining a million would further increase his value.
There's a long ways between no value and a 2nd round pick. |

Like a lot of players who produce 60+ pts, he can easily net us a couple 2nds or a 1st at TDL in his final year when team are looking to load up. Retain 50% to get a 2026 1st... Or retain 1m now and get a 2023 2nd (better option) |

Someone mentioned the 2nd round is deep in D this year, capitalize on that.

Ok genius. So what’s his value if we don’t retain? A 7th? My bad genius 🤮 Brock the key to the rebuild ! |

Would be great to use 3 2nd round picks on defense this year. One for Schenn and another for Brock’s retained corpse |

The value would be 6.65M in cap space. |

For his own sake I hope he starts putting up good #'s the next few weeks.
I don't think his agent is having very much luck soliciting trade offers.

Then take that cap space and take assets back for Zaitsev. 2024 1st please ( doubt their 2023 1st is available) |

The Canucks paid a 2nd to clear up $1.5MM in cap space. If teams want us to retain $1MM to $1.5MM on Brock for a 2nd or 3rd he doesn’t have value. We are being paid to retain. Agreed, just clearing the full cap would be a win and would bail out management of their biggest mistake to date |

It's hard to not re-sign a player who has been over a PPG average over the last season 3 seasons (4 inc this one). We won more game last year based off of his play than lost and he got a contract for it. He was also a favorite of Bruce and FA, how could they not re-sign him? I wish we traded him for assets, but he is still a good, highly productive player. |

I think the Media created the whole situation. Internally they didn't handle it any differently than every other teams handle in season firings. It was made worse by the media writing a million and one articles about it, and asking JR about it every 5 seconds. If Bruce wasn't such a likable guy, nobody would have brought anything up, nor cared he was on the chopping block, like every other coach whose teams is doing poorly when Management thought they would compete. |

It's pretty hard to get a real accurate analysis from previous trades because usually the retained salary is on an expiring player. Not often are they a high level player with another year on his contract.
Rakell (35% retained) expiring
for
Dominik Simon · $750,000
Zach Aston-Reese · $1,725,000
Calle Clang · $0 (AHL/JR) (Signing Rights)(2020 3rd round pick)
2022 2nd round pick (PIT - #53 - Tristan Luneau)
Jeff Carter (50% retained) Carter was 35 years old and had 19 points in 40 games.
for
2022 3rd and conditional 2023 4th that turned into a 3rd with Carter playing 50 games last year. |

No value would mean Canucks would be paying a 2nd round pick plus retaining 1M to trade him and getting nothing in return.
The value further increases the more they retain.
