Gary Bettman says that the #NHL is approaching $6 billion in revenue - “give or take.”

Last season was in the neighborhood of $5.4 billion.

..............................................................................

Cap increase?

Just read yesterday that NHL TV ratings dropped for the 2nd season in a row.

Linden had the right idea but was hamstrung by Benning and Aquaman. We would be in a better spot of we'd kept him.

I remember fighting Benning bros over this.

I mean.... it wouldn't be hard to be in a better spot then we are now.... or to have had more success then we've had since they let him go.

It's been a fast drop to the bottom since he left, not a stretch to say he'd have done better by embracing the rebuild years ago instead of having additional years of failure.
OEL wouldn't be a Canuck for 1.

You could have had Stan Bowman a GM and Francesco was still going to run the team.

He is/was making too much money to scortch earth the team.

Year 9 re-tool.
- VanHockeyGuy

Different than the rebuilds of Edmonton or Buffalo. Gonna be 6 years no playoffs for Ottawa. Arizona 1 playoff appearance in 11 years. 20 years Toronto hasn't been out of the 1st round.

Sadly there are many more examples of true rebuilds that have failed for decades vs Pittsburgh and Chicago.

LA no playoffs for 6 seasons, drafted a few good players then made quite a few trades to win a cup.

IF the GM doesn't make massive mistakes it's different.

I am sure the All Star Game will help drive them up.

They need to be able to trade players year-round. Give the fans what they want. The cap is slowing down the excitement of trading and having new players on the team.

Extra revenue though is all that matters. Gambling has increased revenues even with ratings down. I still doubt they get all the past escrow paid off this year though. Likely a cap increase next year.

There is a few reasons for that like needing to have multiple services to watch games. Blackouts and such. Not have enough staggered start times was mentioned.

Down years for some of the larger hockey markets like Chicago, Philadelphia, STL.

That's why linden left. He had to much of a moral compass to be used as a cover for FA. If he have stayed it would have been too aquamans exclusion.

I fully blame the Sedin's on that one.

As I have said that Benning did good things but everything he did, he did something worse.

Both contracts won't age well after career years.

If JR quits, then I think you have to let PA go and hire back Trevor Linden and elevate Stan Smyl as GM with the Sedins being his AGMs and let them try to fix the mess.

Just what the Canucks can't afford to do right now.

At some point the Islanders are probably going to be hurt by their lack of high end prospects and picks.

At the same time, Horvat-Barzal-Dobson-Sorokin is a pretty nice core group to build around for the next half-decade or so.

Does Detroit pay Larkin and Bertuzzi now or do they lose 2/3 of their top line with no near replacements?
