Back and forth for minute
A really good add for them would be the defenseman for Columbus starts with a G - Anderdog
Gavrikov and Lyboosh as the 3rd pair... Meh. Not a fan of Russian D. |

Your talking about letting the best defenseman in the league out of buffalo at 28 instead of 30.
Foolish. Especially in buffalo, vibes or no vibes, you max dahlins contract. No brainer.... - Boss34
Dahlin would be 24 when an extension kicks in.

I know we've talked about it before, but there's a big swing depending on how you handle the mid-tier guys. Extending VO, Mitts, Jost, Joker, UPL can get expensive. If you move on from some/most, you have a plenty of room to play with.
You'd hope they move on from a few, but you just never know. They seem to love some guys more than they really should. - Lunaion
None of our mid-tier guys should be expecting more money other than Olo. He'll get paid if he stays healthy.
The rest of em look cheap for the foreseeable future. |

No clue. You just never know where the player is at. I'd want 8 years.
8 years @ 9m, Ekblad/Heiskanen deal, based on cap %. Seems fair.
6@ 9.7m, Makar deal. Probably on the high side. 6 years seems most likely.
6@ 8.5m, Hughes deal. Probably on the low side.
3@ 6.5m, Dahlin deal. Probably on the low side - Lunaion
Good point, it takes 2 sides to agree on a deal.
I would just hate to see either dahlin or power leave sooner then later.
Especially with defenseman, they seem to peak a bit later and really grow into there body mid 20's
* yes defenseman do not mature quicker then forwards or vice versa, just takes more time to get really good size and defend too. |

I’ve never been an Olofsson basher though, so idk where this matters to me at all. 9 years after their draft year positioning is largely irrelevant. You know Sam gets pretty streaky as well, would surprise if he ends up with 70 points as the collective Panthers team plays better.
And yeah you have. Or at least said you are done bringing him up (last season when he was dominant) - SDSabre
You need to wipe your chin off.
Sam could just as easily fall to 55 points.
Reinfarts making 6+ million and dragging his new team down. As he did in buffalo.
I'll never understand sammers.
Guy was soft and a jerk in the lockerroom and public.
Eichel made him look better then he was.
Were also talking about this year ,not last. |

ECHL is on one terrible skid. Wow. Vegas must just be hating life right now. I bet he does not last until next summer there, especially if they get bounced early and he’s not a factor in the playoffs - lulags
they invested a lot in him. I'd be stunned if he were traded so fast.

I don't see it that way. Maybe shouldn't have included Jost, but the others would all get a healthy raise with an extension.

Geez, you can’t take ion anywhere
I guess people seeing his attendant just standing by watching thought it was a set up.
LoL, at the next game there will be a bigger dude walking around the arena with Victor E. |

Wouldnt power be around 20/21 years old.,plus 8 year deal.
I'd go the dahlin route 3 + 8 = profit.
As you pointed out, power has a say as well. |

Yea but facts.
Not to mention if things are going well, he will want to re-sign.
But apparently even though we have all these people saying “vibes” they still don’t truly believe it because “players are going to bolt asap.” |

Everything is so much different, about to miss the playoffs for 12 years straight.
If things go bad again next season, the vibes go bye bye.
You always lock up alltime generational players to the max , if you have the room. Sabres have cap space. |

3 + 8 sounds great. It's just not the trend across the league right now. Guys are getting the $ and term they deserve earlier than they used to.
Don't think either side wanted Dahlin to be the exception. He was coming off a bad year and it complicated things.

Ok let's just give dahlin a 2 or 3 year deal. Of course he resigns here, he likes spring break. No other teams have guys that hang out together.
Maybe ask dahlin to play for free? |

I don't think you'll see them walk away from the team. I think Makar and before him, Matthews, are setting a new precedence for top tier players. In that they sign for 6ish years and then can re-up still in prime years for even more with the cap going up. Or you can find your way out of the team if things fall apart. McDavid signed 8 years and I wouldn't be surprised if he's unhappy with it.
It's kind of a players way to push management to make better moves to win instead of milking the player for money with season tickets, merch, etc. Essentially, not to be treated how Tavares was treated on the island.

I’ve never slobbered over Sam. Called him a low/high 20s RW. The reason you elicit the responses you do is because you act like he’s a 3rd liner making 6M. I’d rather not talk about him, but he was/is what he is. And yeah, I’m sure it’s only him being in Fla as to the reason they’ve slipped. Couldn’t possibly be anything else. All Sam’s fault. |

Couple very good points.
I was just looking at the dahlin signing specifically as a model of keeping 1OA defenseman.
Seems like the forwards take tage and cozens type deals?
Power likes the beach with his friends, no chance he finds that elsewhere. |

Well explained. Very good post.
I think defenseman though could be a little different then the forwards? I could be wrong.
The makar deal is already a bad comparison.
Hope you post more. 👍

Nah Samson's a 1/2nd line (frank)face making 6+
Olofsson the true 3rd liner making far less was/is a better deal.
Oh, we cant compare 2 guys picked in the same draft.
Apologies 🤝 |

my response had nothing to do with your discussion.
with Dahlin, he will sign a 7 year extension for 9.5M in the next calendar year. Mark it down.

If you look at the Dahlin deal as the model, I think you have it backwards. It was the exception, while all his peers signed 6-8 year deals.

Yeah that's possible. I am no expert on it. Just thoughts I had about shorter deals with superstars.
Maybe the NHL goes to shorter deals like the NBA. 8 goes to 7 and 7 goes to 6.

You'd probably have to give up a 1st round pick in that deal
