Honest question, what could he do to prove hes good enough to do tough GM'n?
Hes made some good trades, hes made some not so good trades, but hes had some good signings

For me, good GMing is when you trade a Phil Kessel because he doesn't fit the make up of the team. (he was too soft for their philosophy). Boston stays competitive because they make tough moves with star players, poop they did it with Sequin and Hamilton and recouped a ton doing it.

The "tough" trades are the ones where you take a hard look at top 6 forwards and top 4 defensemen, even if they're young, and move them to fix the culture or the balance of the team....even if that player moves on and becomes a HoFer in 10 years the move was made at the time to IMPROVE the TEAM.

Good GMing to me happens more when they are not coveting players because they are stars, but trading stars to make a better overall team....whether fans want it or not.

Dubas has made some moves, nothing tough though.

So when did the avs trade Mackinnon, Rantanen, landeskog when that core failed for 8 years? Oh they didn't...right right... They failed so hard with that core they got Makar. By the way they were the worst team in the regular season and lost the lottery so fell back 4 spots....

yeah I'm pretty sure you'd trade Matthews, Nylander, Marner if the leafs missed the playoffs with the core claiming it's done.

Wouldn't trade any of those guys....at all, ever. Hope all 3 retire as Cup winners with the Leafs.

Not sure signing JT was the smartest move tho. Kadri had to go, understandably, but there were and have been cheaper 2Cs available over the years. I think that is the moved that has handcuffed this team the most...and still does.

(Not saying JT sucks or anything either, great player...a little slow but I digress)

Same with Tampa.
