An "aggressive" retool.
I like that phrase a lot. I think it's ridiculous.

My apologies, i read it incorrectly.
Honestly it think the raps overpaid for poeltl as well.
But he is what they lacked and if they move out og or fvf, they will recoup the outgoing picks.
They just better resign him. - Fakepartofme
Maybe you can explain why they traded for someone instead of signing him in the off season? Or drafting a similar player?

I also know nothing about basketball, but it appears the Raptors just traded away a 1st round pick.

They know him
Masai didnt want to trade him away but had to.
Could be another move to come, if not masai might think they can go a round or two in the playoffs if they get in.
Maybe not a player of that type where they will draft. |

Not sure why you guys are making fun of Prince.
Except for the use of the word "woke", he's not far off. (and I rarely agree with or like any of his posts)
The "trust the core" approach hasn't worked for 7 years. Dubas hasn't made it better over the last 4 years. He has made it the same team with different variations of cheap peripheral players. UFAs have walked and some picks/prospects have been tossed around but there have been no "bold" moves made and he's run the clock on the star players contracts.
The situation isn't good. Unless he grabs his nutsack and swings for the fences, the next two years could go sideways fast for this team.
Actually not sure if I were Shanahan, who's the worst of them all, that I would want him at the helm when Matthews, Marner, Nylander and JTs contracts expire over the next few years.
He really hasn't proven he's good enough to do the tough GMing that needs to be done this year to win and the next few to keep some really important players.
Is anyone but ZZ 100% sure Dubas is good at his job???
Edit: I mean he hasn't messed the team up, so there's that. But anyone can tinker. |

The core took off early. Everyone loving the NJD right now. NC is 23 now and they are just getting going.
The 1st round exits suck but AM and Marner made the playoffs as teenagers after a year in the basement. Give them (frank)ing time. |

Honest question, what could he do to prove hes good enough to do tough GM'n?
Hes made some good trades, hes made some not so good trades, but hes had some good signings |

So when did the avs trade Mackinnon, Rantanen, landeskog when that core failed for 8 years? Oh they didn't...right right... They failed so hard with that core they got Makar. By the way they were the worst team in the regular season and lost the lottery so fell back 4 spots....
yeah I'm pretty sure you'd trade Matthews, Nylander, Marner if the leafs missed the playoffs with the core claiming it's done.

Prince and others diminish Dubas by saying he inherited his stars but criticize him for having a “top heavy” salary structure where the money goes to the four stars. He’s built a team around those stars in a cap constrained environment with good and bad signings and trades and produced one of the best teams in the league. In my view he’s done better than the HHOF GM that was in the job before him. |

got to give these young guys a chance to win, if it is not in toronto....it will be somewhere else. Time to rebuild is they don't sweep their 4 series these up coming playoffs. |

I'm all for giving them time. Their contract statuses (statusi?) kinda make me think there isn't much more time to give.
And FWIW, I've really enjoyed watching them make the playoffs for the last 7 years, the years before were (frank)ing painful as a fan.
However, those 1st round exits were not boner friendly. Sure better than "going golfing" in April but is that the only two options available to this team?

yeah it totally sucks to feel like they are good enough to win a round or two and just..not. Totally blows. It would suck if they still lost again and Dubas and Co aren't without their mistakes. I personally believe they have done quite well and learned from their mistakes/corrected them.
With that said, we have seen in sports GMs build teams and not be there for the win with the core. Dubas doesn't get out of the first round then he likely isn't here to see it.
