Trying to sort through this word salad..

It seems to me he is on record as believing this team is a lot worse than its record, and that it is unbelievable they are at hockey .500

the sarcasm in his post is pretty evident to me at least

- MBFlyerfan

No, what I believe he is inferring is no one should be stating the team is doing well when they are currently 21st in the league in points. I get that. But no one should have expected this team to be even at this point given the past two seasons, a new coaching staff and all the injuries to key players they have had. Some of us can see the improvement to the overall team play and the progression of the young players as a positive, others apparently cannot.

I just don’t see it happening…last year, to me, was as bad as they could ever be with that lineup. Fletcher has continued to double down and sign guys that he saw as long term solutions. That’s not the moves of a team heading for a tank.
- landros 2

They will never tank as long as Fletcher is here, but honestly I don't think this team needs to tank. They have good players and potential good young talent coming up through their system. The Flyers just need to clear some cap space, draft high in this draft and hit on their picks. But to do this, you need a GM that recognizes that this team is no where close even if they had zero injuries and as you say, to stop doubling down on players like DeAngelo and Sanheim.

BTW, did anyone notice how much better Sanheim was last night playing with Risto, at least offensively?

We as outsiders talk like Torts has no idea. He’s winging it and deserves no credit. It’s undeniable that he’s a successful coach in this league. If you listen to his press conferences, he always talks as if he’s working on something or working with someone to improve something. He’s a boss and as the boss, the players have to do what he says. So what credit do some of you think he deserves because the players that we had no expectations of are responding well.

I think Torts deserves the Jack Adams award this year, hands down!

What I'm stating is that the team is a .500 team and a below average team in the league. They are below a mediocre team. Tortorella deserves credit for improving the team and getting them to play an improved team game. What he doesn't deserve is the hyperbole of it's a miracle they're playing so well and he should win the Jack Adams award. He is doing essentially what Yeo should've done last season. I told you Yeo was a bad coach and you argued with me. Tortorella is essentially a high level, well paid interim coach. Nothing more. He has the team at the level that their talent should have them at. That is not worthy of miracle or coach of the year praise.

This is an example of how the Flyers PR machine and marketing strategy along with Tortorella's manipulation has worked on a large faction of the fan base. My standards are higher. So is the leagues as Tortorella will not get consideration for coach of the year.

Very underwhelming performance by McDavid and Draisaitl, was expecting a lot more. McDavid was cheating a lot, always breaking the zone hoping a puck got chipped by

The Jack Adams Award is awarded annually to the National Hockey League coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success. I guess you're right that we can't really say this team is successful given they are hockey .500 and 21st in the league. However my point is I believe Torts has had a lot to do with resurrecting this franchise and I just wanted to give him acknowledgement of that. As you know I was against his hiring and called it a "lazy hire" by Fletcher. But Torts has won me over and I do believe he has adjusted his style and approach to the modern day NHL. The Flyers may never get back to the top and if they do, you all may be right that Torts will probably not be the coach if that happens, but I do wish the Flyers could get back to the top with Torts as their coach.

You can't say that anymore .. teams by now know what this Flyers team is and know they can't just show up and get 2 points as they did last year.

Do you really think that was Edmonton's "A" game last night?

Their record against playoff teams is very telling. They can steal a game or two from the Caps, Kings, Oilers but watching them get thrashed by deeper, well-coached teams like Boston and Toronto is a true measure of where this team actually is.

I think Edmonton tried to win the game, but the Flyers played them hard. Sometimes a team cannot play their "A" game because of what their opponent is doing. Clearly McDavid had his moments but Cates stymied him several times throughout the game, and Hart had a big save on McDavid in OT when it appeared he was going to end the game right there.

The franchise has been resurrected!!!!!!!! They're a .500 team and ranked 22nd overall. Hallelujieh. The Flyers are not playing a modern day style and approach. Sitting back passively and blocking shots is not how the best NHL teams play.

Perhaps McDavid just had a sub-par game. He's tearing up the entire league in scoring but the Flyers have the answer.

Listen to Torts at 3:30 about Frost last night.

Torts is 100% spot on about Frost's consistency.

Torts teams can surprise opponents that show up lazy and try to finesse their way to an easy win.

Teams like the B's and Leafs still battle relatively hard even on their off nights, so it's not surprising that the Flyers still get pegged by them.

McDavid looked like he was firing on all cylinders, even in pre-game warmups. He did not have a sub-par game IMO, he had a sub-par result and that is because Cates and Laughton were matched against his line all night. Out of 28 shifts from McDavid, Cates was on the ice for 25 of them!

Seems everyone else thought he played poorly for his standards. I was disappointed, thought I was gonna see a guy take over a game

McDavid having one assist is a sub par game for him. Like I said, the Flyers have the answer for McDavid.

Torts has also been in the league how long? Everyone knows how his teams are going to play, this is just false, there’s no surprise. You’re going to have to work for the win, teams know that going into the game
