This is why I don't really think Montgomery is the front runner. Yes, I thought they would be in decline and the fact they have the best record is quite a surprise to me. He should be in the conversation for sure, and for that matter so should Rod.
But I think if the Kraken make the playoffs, Hakstol is the clear cut shoe in. - MBFlyerfan
What Montgomery has done is not easy to do. Take them from being a pretty good team and turning them into a great team and the prohibitive Cup favorite. His system and methods transformed the team offensively.

I don't disagree. I just think taking a second year expansion team and turning them into a solid playoff contender in year two with basically an expansion roster is even harder to do. Seattle already has 3 more points than they did all last season. That is pretty impressive.

Hakstol is most definitely deserving. He was a good coach here and I'm glad he is having success.
This is an example of how the Flyers PR machine and marketing strategy along with Tortorella's manipulation has worked on a large faction of the fan base. My standards are higher. So is the leagues as Tortorella will not get consideration for coach of the year. - MJL
I was just listening to Boomer Gordon and Jake Hahn on the NHL Sirius/XM Network, and they both said that they think Torts has been the best coach in the league this year based on what he is getting out of this current roster. He won't get consideration as coach of the year based on where they are in the standings, but I tend to agree with these two guys. This roster is easily a bottom 5 roster and they currently are at hockey .500. It just seems as if you refuse to give Torts the credit that he deserves.
McDavid's move was far worse. Embarrassing for a player of his caliber and completely lackadaisical. - MJL
I disagree again. Hart stayed patient and basically forced McDavid to screw himself into the ice. The other guy (Draisatil...can't spell his name) that you mentioned did nothing.....he just skated in and took a meaningless shot.

I disagree. This roster is a .500 roster. It has some good players and generally good goaltending. Calling Tortorella the best coach in the league is foolish. I give Tortorella the credit he deserves. I don't give him the credit he doesn't deserve. Stating that he has been the best coach in the league this year is an example of the latter.

One of these things is not like the other! Guess which one. A shot on net has at least somewhat of a chance to score. A SO attempt where no shot on net occurred has no chance to score. For a player of McDavid's caliber and skill to not get a shot off, was an embarrassing effort.

So you basically give Hart no credit on that play? Go watch and see how many stick handling maneuvers McDavid made in a small space. He was made to look silly cause Hart held his ground and didn't move. Again, the second shooter did nothing to make Hart move. He just skated down and took a shot. That ain't gonna work against most NHL goalies.
It's just more of Tortrella's BS and an attempt to manipulate and push buttons. I see right through all of it. - MJL
Isn't that what a coach is supposed to do? Push the right buttons to get the most out of his players. He just ripped DeAngelo a couple of days ago. I think he keeps it real for the most part. As I said, I thought Frost had his best game as a Flyer last night, but by his own admittance he thought he had a bad game in the previous game against the Isles. Torts wants to see consistency. What's wrong with that?
And again they are watchable….when some of the kids like Foerster, Brink and Gauthier arrive at least they are coming into a system where by they have a defined role and expectation. I don’t know if Torts will be around when they are actually a legit contending team, but he’ll have been responsible for at least getting them pointed in the right direction. - landros 2
You said it right.. players have defined roles. They haven't given players a defined role on this squad in a long time ans I feel that is part of the problem with the development here.
They draft a guy known for speed and finesse and then try to make him play a style opposite of his true talents. It's maddening.
I have become a huge fan of Torts and what he has done here. He'll, he even has RR playing better hockey. Nobody else has been able to make that happen....

McDavid was lazy, lackadaisical and carefree on that attempt. Hart held his ground because there was little deception offered by McDavid. It was a bunch of nothing. It was a very weak effort by McDavid and not difficult for Hart to fend off. Successful SO attempts where the player skates in and beats the goaltender with a well placed shot happen frequently.

I think it is somewhere in between, no Coots, No Cam, players come off injury, 1c and 3C basically rookies, this team could easily be under hockey 500. On the other side, if you believed in their drafting, you could say this was finally the year they were somewhat healthy.

Tortorella is schizophrenic and despite his claims to be honest and forthcoming, is not so with the media and in his press conferences. He tries to play BS mind games. There is nothing wrong with wanting to see consistency as long as he applies that consistently to all player across the board.

There's going to be ebb and flow around that line for the rest of the season. That's what they are. Give Tortorella credit for improving the team but he hasn't been some miracle worker who has elevated the team above what they are with his coaching.

game to game players will be inconsistent, younger players more often but I think people throw around the word with lack of context. Just my opinion, I think Torts see Frost for what he can be and he thinks this is the best way to apply pressure to get him there.

Speaking of inconsistency. After going on that tear, Konecy has 3 points, all assists in the last 10 games. No goals in the last 10 and has no points in 6 straight games and one point in his last 7 games.

correct, it just happens, cracks me up when someone is a STREAKY SCORER etc. The elite is just happens a lot less and their lesser game still appears to be really good.

They are under .500..22 wins 31 losses..well under .500. They are winning 40% of their games

Maybe. Maybe not. It's a matter of opinion.
But the opinion that counts is mine. Especially because it comes from me.
And I say they both suck in comparison to America the Beautiful. Especially the Ray Charles' soulful rendition. They made an "official video" version of it last year for the 50th anniversary of its recording. Very nicely done:

This is why TK isn't considered to be among the best in the league. He is a good/very good player, but can't get to the next level cause of this. It's like he gets in his own head. You can see that he is pressing. Bring out the sports phycologist.
