SO I was talking about the devils in the leaf blog getting Meier and I was taking a look at the cap situation.

Random question, for next year with a lot of guys to sign, not including a potential meier, just Bratt and the RFAs mostly, do you think Graves walks to free agency? Severson? Or are these core guys to the team? Honest question! Not trolling!

Neither are core and we'll have Hughes and Nemec, plus 3 potential great D in Utica. No need for either.
Signing these two would be around 10 mil cap - use that for Bratt and someone else while Nemec and Luke at their entry level deals.

I think Severson is gone. I’d prefer to have Graves back for a 4.5x3 or something until the ELCs are up for Luke and Nemec. I know we probably won’t have a 3rd pair of Luke-Nemec, but the Graves-Marino pairing was so good for us.

I would def welcome back graves or go bargain shopping for a stay at home d. Maybe some 33 yr old that'll sign for a mil. With the quality of D we'll have, this guy would only get like 12 min a game, so he just has to play a small, niche game.

Well speaking of this, Pagnotta on TSN radio this morning said the Devils are still leading the way for Meier and he would be surprised if he didn't end up in NJ. Says other teams are lurking, but Devils want to get it done.

Its only disappointment if you set yourself up for it. I'm fully expecting Timo to go elsewhere and for Fitz to make a stupid trade for someone like Boeser.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sharks wait this out to see if a bidding war develops. Right now it doesn’t seem like it’s happening.

He is, but there's no world Fitz allows him to play on another 1 year deal. He'll either be extended long term or be traded.

LeBrun on Insider Trading reiterates what he said on his pod earlier. The Devils would love to land Meier, have had increased talks over the last 48 hours, but they want an extension to be part of the trade.

Mentioned the Canes have also had more talks regarding Meier and would be more than willing to make the trade without an extension.

Are the Canes just trying to put up a smokescreen here, because it feels weird for them to commit a lot of assets to get a rental they can't extend. However, this might be their best shot at a cup based on their play and the rest of the league so sell what you can to win it all.

Feels like Grier is trying to play hardball with just letting teams talk contract extensions recently. Nobody was going to offer a king's ransom for a guy they can't extend with a 10mil QO.

Not letting teams talk extension is the only leverage SJ has. If he actually wants to sign in NJ, don’t know why CAR would waste assets on him.
