I would also build a team from the net out
Demko or Saros
Then, shore up the D
(Chychrun, Graves, McCabe etc)
FW last (easiest to acquire) - mr.sir
Ya I mean when you look at the last number of teams that won the Cup and look who was in net and the season those goalies were having then not how they play now - Samsonov and or Murray/Woll are not better or even as good.
Tbay - best goalie in the world…still
Blues - Bennington - unreal that season
Caps - Holtby / Grubauer
Pens - Murray / Jary
Kings - Quick
Bruins - Rask
Hawks - Crawford (Team Canada calibre)
To get out of the East (most likely) need to outgoalie:
Vasilevskiy
Shesterkin
Ullmark/Swayman
Anderson
Sammy is playing well overall this year no doubt - but just not good enough. |

Leafs have two NHL quality goaltenders and one that's ready to break out. Robidas Island for Murray next year, unless another team wants to make a pitch, seems logical. Samsonov is still very young and improving. Sign him to a $2.5 X 4 next year and the goaltending will be fine. - PrinceLH
Bold: absolutely agree. But NOW is the time to get the bloody Cup. Not the time to wait to see if your AHL tender blossoms and become a legit NHL starter and a Cup calibre one at that. Same goes with Samsonov. I agree he’s played well but man there is no wait to see time you know |

It would be cool to have a young gun line like
Johnson - Sillinger - Marchenko
Or
Lafreniere Chytil Kakko
You know…develop some long term chemistry |

One of the things that I had heard in the last 24 hours is that the Leafs are obviously focusing on a D-man, and they’re targeting Jakob Chychrun.” He said.
Kypreos speculated further, adding that this could be something Toronto looks at giving top prospect Matthew Knies up for.

Ya Nick Paul is a real go go speed racer.
Plenty of players compensate for lack of speed by learning how to be positionally sound.
I've seen a lot of slow players take the piss right out of fast players too. |

Rangers suddenly look like a proper contender, just by adding the missing elite player in the top6 and a 3rd pairing tough guy.
Leafs should try it... |

Right?!?!
They should mix it up in front of the net a little bit. Oh wait, we don't have those guys.
A Domi and a healthy Matthews would be nice right now.
(wasn't directed at you D, just gave me an opening to pitch Domi again )
Edit: but I do agree with your point |
