I am now watching A Bridge Too Far.
I am willing to entertain your your suggestions, but with the possible exceptions of the Dam Busters and Lawrence of Arabia, this is the best war movie of all time.

Yes, if he decides to sign. He’d likely have three regular season games after his college season ends. U of Minn is top ranked or one of top ranked teams and championship weekend goes until April 8 or something. |

So having an affair with an employee 31 years younger than you should only be judged on the basis of your party loyalty? And he was leader of the conservatives in Ontario but they weren’t conservative enough then |

How about you and Zezel stop judging everyone and everything. A couple of insufferable jackasses who should just shut up. |

Sorry, Drexel brings up his politics and I say his politics don’t matter if he’s having an affair with someone 31 years younger than him. He did the right thing and resigned. I don’t care what his politics are. Try to think it through slowly. |

Why trade for a forward then? He looks like he can make that jump. |

The simple answer is that there's no guarantee he comes in and makes a difference. Most kids jumping up from NCAA have to be very special and ready to play at the pace of the NHL game. Some recent guys I can think of who have come up from the frozen four and how they fared in their late season additions:
Shane Pinto (12GP, 1G, 6A, +6)
Jacob Bernard-Docker (5GP, +2)
Nick Abruzzese (9GP, 1G, -1)
Cole Caulfield (10GP, 4G, 1A, -1 // 20GP in playoffs, 4G, 8A, -5)
Matt Kiersted (7GP, -4)
Dunne (6GP, -1)
Matty Beniers (10GP, 3G. 6A. -1)
Bobby Brink (10GP, 4A, -5)
Jack McBain (10GP, 2G, 1A, -6)
Jordan Harris (10GP, 1G, +3)
We all saw Abruzzese first-hand here and he did look out of place. I mean he was probably no different than Jimmy Vesey - smallish, non-impactful - just sort of there. He wasn't really a liability, but he sure wasn't contributing anything.
Caufield had an inauspicious debut, but you could see his talent and shot and you could also tell he belonged in the NHL because he was getting better and adapting as the games progressed for him.
Matty Beniers is a special player - and was drafted 2nd overall because of it, and he was a difference maker for the Kraken in his audition. That said, how would most of these guys fare over a long playoff run? I mean it's 50 games into this season, so it's not apples:apples, but Beniers had a solid first 20 games with 18 points, and in the 30 games since he has 16. The difference there - I think - is that the first 20 games are looser and fewer teams were taking Seattle seriously. I don't see them often, and I've done absolutely no analysis on them - so I'm throwing that out as mere speculation. But Seattle has lost 5 of their last 7 and 7 of their last 10, so things are definitely getting harder for them.
The point is that if Knies can come in and be a difference maker and belong in the NHL it would be like pennies from heaven, but the odds of it happening are incredibly small so it's best to hedge that bet.

Nice. The idea that they could count on him to be a top six guy is a stretch. Playing down the lineup might be possible but what does their bottom six look like if they bring a guy in and Jarnkrok gets bumped down, etc. Anyway, no limit on roster size in playoffs so always possible he shows up. |

The ask is not particularly high from what is being speculated, he needs to go.

Leafs need to win at least a round or else Dubas is getting sacked.
So he needs to go all-in here.
He was lying when he said wouldn’t do that (he learned a thing or two from Lou) so i expect him to make a splash.
1. Miere. He’s too good to not go after.
2. Chychrun. Trade Rielly in the off-season.
3. Henrique. He would completely transform the bottom 6. |

Great post. Never thought about it that way. Knies' value appears to be as a top 6 impact player.
And what if you didn't trade him, but did land a difference maker on the top 2 lines?
Does he come in and play wing on the 4th line since Jarnkrok is now playing 3rd line?
How does that affect the depth question?
I like the idea really. He's big enough and physical enough to play bottom 6.
Allows to move out a 3rd or 4th liner while adding impact in the top 6.
It does seem though the Knies will be part of the ask for any decent top 6 winger.

Obviously the big question is where the Leafs peg his upside versus what he might do if he plays at all this year. I think that’s why Dubas makes a point of differentiating between trading him for a rental or a guy with term.
Ideally, at some point, Knies becomes the kind of power forward they’re looking to trade for and for a while anyway, he’s much cheaper. BUT, maybe he doesn’t pan out. Dubas seems to be saying that he’s not willing to risk trading away that possibility for a rental but that he might for the right guy with term. |
