maybe, since Chychrun still hasnt been traded to the Kings, he's still gotta be a target for Oilers |

I assume this isn't news to you, but there is zero chance of holding an NHL team to zero shot attempts. The nature of the game is that puck possession is erratic, but both teams will have lots of it, even if it's not even.
12 shots attempts against in a period is not a bad total. Blocking 2/3 of those and only allowing 4 actual shots on net in a period is excellent. If you can't see that, you don't understand the game as well as I give you credit for. - Tonybere
I've never said hold them to zero. I also said the rangers played better in the 3rd period. |

is your other goalie better than Andersen because it doesn't seem like he's it - picklerick
Kochetkov is the guy, but when you've got two vet goalies on the roster and the young guy can go up and down without waivers, you're kinda stuck.

They are relentless but like you said any mistakes and the odd man rushes just pile up. I don't think I have seen the Rangers with so many in a game this season. - JRR1285
Yep.
It's especially bad if they get behind because they turn it up even more.
But that's also why they dump pucks instead of going for clean entries. any turnover can kill them so they just don't handle the puck much in their own end or in the neutral zone if they can help it.
Dump it out and go get it every time. |

it always amazes me how the advanced stat guys completely dismiss faceoffs as an entity - jimbro83
No its quite simple Jimmy, they simply don't know how to interpret their data. They can't reconcile subtle nuances in their raw black and white data world. |

man you should see the workout routine these guys do.
Brent Burns was talking about it when he arrived. He said every team has a few guys who go way above and beyond but he's never seen one where EVERYONE is pushing that hard in the weight room. then he played and realized why they have to.
It's a really hard way to play. Easy to see why when things start to slip a little bit it quickly falls apart. |

It reminds me of the Rangers back during the Tortorella times. I think they tried to make up the disparity between their talent and other teams with work ethic etc. It worked well but they seemed to falter against a team that had both. |

Maybe. But, you also pointed out the 4 shots against actually came from 12 shot attempts as if that meant the Rangers hadn't actually played well.
The fact that you can find any negative about holding the division leaders to 4 shots in a 3rd period they are trailing (or at least not be pleased by it) means you're concerned more with the stats than the results. I just think that's off base. |

I think why it didn't work with Torts was that his definition of hard work is all in your own zone, getting in lanes, etc. whereas Brind'amour wants you to grind the poop out of them 200 feet from your own net.
Less about stopping the puck, more about getting it and keeping it away. |

MSG has always been a house of horrors for CAR.
They're 59-79-7-9 all time against NYR, 5th worst against any club. |

That's also how the NHL, and some sports as a whole have trended since Torts was here 10 years ago. Possession is a much better tactic than suppression. Watched it in action last night to give the super bowl a nice boring ending to what was a very high scoring game. |

I harken back to the Trocheck interview...The Rangers were not surprised by this
Could they do anything about it for the first 6 minutes...nope
Could they do anything about it in the second...nope
Did they figure it out in the 3rd...this game, yes |

it's better to have the puck than not have it
but it's also better to score than have a shot attempt

Butch was probably around these parts in the off season!
Tried to find some video, but the best I found for proof the event ever happened was this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284824159864
Every summer, tons of NHL players would come and get absolutely plastered while playing slo pitch and signing autographs all day! We spent every minute we could there. |
