Maybe. But, you also pointed out the 4 shots against actually came from 12 shot attempts as if that meant the Rangers hadn't actually played well.
The fact that you can find any negative about holding the division leaders to 4 shots in a 3rd period they are trailing (or at least not be pleased by it) means you're concerned more with the stats than the results. I just think that's off base. - Tonybere
I am concerned with process. But you gotta factor it was a B2B and the Canes are good. They won. That's what matters. They also a little lucky in winning. All of that can be true. This is not irrational.
No its quite simple Jimmy, they simply don't know how to interpret their data. They can't reconcile subtle nuances in their raw black and white data world. - TommyGTrain

Hockey Stat cards takes into account penalties drawn and taken. It's not perfect. But it's better than nothing. - tomburton99
Wrong! This is where you and I disagree. Nothing is better when you can't put into proper context the raw data.
A penalty taken to save a goal is very different than a penalty of laziness or bad circumstance. There is a HUGE difference that you can't account for and makes many of these charts misleading, and sometimes quite foolish.

it's better to have the puck than not have it
but it's also better to score than have a shot attempt - jimbro83
A shot attempt is an attempt to score. You're not putting it at the net for any other reason.
Nobody is intentionally not scoring. And, yeah, corsi numbers are good for determining the flow of play, but they're not good for identifying individual talent.
Oh and most of the publicly available WAR models are dogpoop for evaluating players. You have to watch the underlying numbers because the big 94 or 35 on the face of the card can be calculated terribly.

Canes Stats guru Eric Tulsky put it this way:
Every stat you get from a part of a game is like turning the light on and off in a darkened room. It's a snapshot of that specific moment in time. It does NOT tell you what happened to get to that point, just what IS happening.
For the individuals who track public models, they're turning the light on and off 300, 400 times per game.
Teams with decdicated, robust stats departments are doing it about 3000, 4000 times per game.

Dawg, when you learn the difference between Friday, Saturday, Seattle, and Carolina, then I'll engage you on this. Until then, it ain't happening.
in the playoffs, they'll never be a case where they play in MSG one night, get on a plane, get into hotel at 2am and then have a road game the next day
Its just a bad situation all around. At this point it needs to be resolved - mdw7413
Tough to say if he has first round value or not, but I’d even be open to moving him for a higher pick (1st/2nd rounder) just to get out from this situation. Recoup some of what was traded to STL.

He doesn't.
He's 23 years old and has 48 games under his belt.
