but is he taking Vesey's spot on the 3rd line? - jimbro83
We can’t be married to him on the 3rd line. Vesey on the 4th one makes them a better team 🤷🏻♂️ |

That's fair. I'm not arguing the Rangers didn't played better in the 3rd period. They did. All I said is if Halak is merely average, they probably get smoked. - tomburton99
Eh. The Rangers had three great chances early in the game too that Freddie managed to keep out.
End of the day the Canes played most of the first two periods of the game the way they wanted to, and the Rangers showed them in the third why that doesn't always work against a team that can score on the rush.
Ultimately Canes need another scorer up front to take advantage of when they hem teams in.
They can really only play one way. If the blueline makes any mistakes it costs them, and Pesce had a shockingly bad game. |

With the way Vesey is playing I disagree unless the player coming in is better. I don't think Pool Party is better (right now). |

Yea agreed. But if they can’t find a taker they may have to is all I’m saying |

That’s fair. Just trying to get an NHL player for Kravtsov, I really don’t want picks for him. Either way his value is in the pits, so get someone who’s value is also in the pits |

They are relentless but like you said any mistakes and the odd man rushes just pile up. I don't think I have seen the Rangers with so many in a game this season. |

I watched that entire Oiler-Canadien game yesterday, and I think the last thing the Oilers would be interested in is Kravtsov
their blue line is very woof

I like Puljujärvi a lot and would love to see him here. I'm just not sure it's a good move right now. I would be all over it in the off season. |

Anderson looked very off at times that game. i think he is still nursing an injury despite being back. |

My understanding is that the stats assume that if you are giving up chances against then you aren't faring well in those aspects. But, there is a hell of a lot more that goes into a shift then just those outcomes. That will always be the sticking point with me. Things can be learned from the stats, of course. But, not everything. - Tonybere
Exactly. I also think the stats are deployed in an incorrect way (I.e. using game score to judge a role player). You wouldn’t use a saw to screw in a Phillips head screw (even though you can).
I’m actually coming around on some of these advanced stats, thanks to Tom posting them. Just want a real good understanding of what they mean.
P.S. That call last night was total bs |

Carolina did the same at times last year, so game was a microcosm of the playoffs....with same end result (couldn't resist Bingo) |

Attempts or actually shots? Because in attempts Carolina had 12 for and 10 against. Only 4 of the 12 attempts were registered as shots on goal - tomburton99
I assume this isn't news to you, but there is zero chance of holding an NHL team to zero shot attempts. The nature of the game is that puck possession is erratic, but both teams will have lots of it, even if it's not even.
12 shots attempts against in a period is not a bad total. Blocking 2/3 of those and only allowing 4 actual shots on net in a period is excellent. If you can't see that, you don't understand the game as well as I give you credit for.
