Do you consider Bruce Boudreau a Rick Tochet?
- lacaprup

No, I think Boudreau is a made man in this league. He is about the only name that really came to mind as being available and a possible upgrade. I'd still roll with Donnie.

20-30 years ago, it was also easier to afford to go to whatever you wanted, including concerts

now not so much

I’ll try and find it, but a there are a lot of artists pushing back on ticketmaster and live nation.

Basically they are driving up prices and costs and taking more of the cut and on top of that adding their own fees.

Pearl jam is the famous example here. They fought the battle and were ridiculed... and they were absolutely right.

Yes goalies need to make saves when it matters. Goalposts haven’t moved. I need my goalies to make more saves on high danger chances. They don’t do that currently.
The stats back it.

- ImThatGuy

I shared all the stats that the person you're replying to claimed in his post would show how super terrific UPL has been, and those stats showed similar to what you are seeing: He is near the bottom of the league.

The team went on a goal scoring tear during his starts, which greatly helped him in the win - loss column.

He ignored it and latched on to his record.

Summary: You're wasting your time.

No, I actually never said that. I said I didn't have access to those stats but that I imagined that they would be positive for him. Maybe they are a predictor of his future success. But here we are complaining that a rookie goalie in the league took the job from 2 vets and ran with it by winning games on a team that is fairly bad defensively. So I am just supposed to toss that aside because some of the underlying numbers aren't great?

The bigger point is that the kid has done well and has earned more time. There is no "yeah, but" with that. Also, who are you going to go out and get? You'd get another question mark.

I hope Power works on his shot in the off season. It is definitely not at the NHL level.

For a guy his size its definitely one of the slower ones on the team.

I don't know that there is a problem with the speed of his shot. Look at so many of the goals that were scored last night - they were top corner. You either hit that spot reliably you are can't. Right now, he can't.

The win was huge last night for the development of the team. Skids happen, to every team. In years past it would seem impossible for the Sabres to stop the bleeding. To me, this is starting to be a sign of mental growth. The skill (for the most part) is there. Mentally they’ve been weak for years and the snowball effect took hold and poof done. Was there in the beginning of the year but they’ve grown imo. Game coulda went the other way in the third.

At least this is my hope.

Except he is a defenseman and scoring goals in close was the forwards.

His shot is definitely weak.

So UPL is 13 - 7. Lets say that he finishes the year with a 20 - 10 record with similar underlying numbers, are we really going to go out to try to get another one? Don't get me wrong - if something can be upgraded I am all for it. But anyone out there is going to have warts. Just look at the goalies that moved in the offseason.

You know it's bad when Soupy is roughing people. I was overseas when this was going on. Does anyone remember this game? Seems like a memorable one.

If the Sabres are as analytic driven as they say then yes they should be looking for an upgrade.

Do you look at win loss record for starting pitchers too?

Maybe. I just don't see how you couldn't roll into next year with him as the starter if he maintains that winning percentage. It isn't like they were winning in spite of him. When I watched his games over the last couple of months he looked like exactly what we wanted him to look like.

Well, sure. They are a stat just like any other. I guess that the worst thing you can say about him is that the stats might indicate that his success isn't sustainable. Maybe that is completely true. But the spirit of the question isn't about that. What if he just keeps winning AND looking good to the eyes? Again, he looks strong out there and the team clearly feels that (vibes alert).

If he ends the season 20 - 10, I'll let you know after the playoffs. Did he get carried to 20 - 10 and then sink us in the playoffs in 4 straight crap starts?

His save percentage is .895 and his GAA is 3.47

For reference the average NHL save percentage this year is .906 and GAA is 2.94

He is a below average NHL goalie
