I'm not, just really high on him and we have a lot of hinges to choose from...more than we can play in fact. The trick is to keep the right ones.
- RhinoFan

Projecting to the same pace of production as his draft year.

Is that progress?

The 8-11 mill a year players on defense will be Dahlin and Power not Chychrun.
- SABRES 89

If the Sabres do trade for chychrun

He has a couple years old at 4.something

That wouldn’t bother me if I were Adams. Worry about that later

Undoubtedly. Ranks are all over the place due to the plethora of high end youngins we have, but he's at the top of the list IMO. I think Kulich jumped Ostlund and Rosen, not Matty.
- RhinoFan

No one knows where these guys are going to be in 10 years. But based on projection of skill, Savoie is at the top and Kulich, Ostlund, Rosen and Levi are all in that mix for 2-5.

The man who had the idea to draft an unheralded rookie sensation from Japan has passed away.

So hinging everything on Matt Savoie probably isn't the best move.
- lacaprup

this isn't 2015 when we need to hinge our hopes on jack eichel. the point is to draft great players that complement what you already have. and we probably have 8-10 guys that will be able to do that in Buffalo.

That's the only thing that makes him valuable right now, he's not all that or worth all that. His contact right now makes him worth all that.

To me, Kulich is their number one, and it's a horse race between Ostlund and Savoie for 2nd.
- kingcong39

the knock on kulich over savoie is that he lacks the dynamicism that savoie has. kulich is flashier rn but he's more of a jeff skinner guy. (this isn't bad)

savoie to me is a smaller version of cozens.

But he has to rank under every player that made team Canada U20 at forward. We have other prospects who made that tournament and outplayed several team Canada players. It's debatable Savoie is the #1 prospect.
- lacaprup

Disagree. Him and Clarke were real head scratchers this year. The ageism and politics associated with the selection of that team are pretty well documented as well. I mean, if you want to argue Schaefer or Gaucher were there based on being more talented than Matty, you can, but that's pretty tough one methinks.

It's debatable on the last part, think it's him, Kulich and Levi at the top...any could end up being "the best" but he has tools Kulich doesn't have and Levi is still somewhat of a wildcard until he hits the pro level.

guy like that on the open market in 2 years is getting an easy 9. sabres have to weigh having him as a 2 year rental or pay him that much. most teams need to weigh that, and im guessing that's the reason he's still in arizona.

After being off a lot during the summer due to the shoulder injury and starting off slow, I would say it is. He bounced back well and is his godlike self again out there. Really impressed, he's going to knock your socks off, just wait.

let's all keep in mind that canada has by far the largest pool of players to choose from, and typically, along with what's above, will choose a bundle of role players to perform specific roles, despite the fact that those players are significantly less talented than other players left off of the roster.

he's not that nice to include one of our top 5 guys.

Ostlund is not getting enough credit around these parts. he's an extremely good player.

Maybe I'd do Benning and Timo for top 5 1, VGK 2, Ostlund, Mittelstadt/Olofsson.

- TheSabresTaco

Ostlund is being included for Timo not Benning

no i understand.

separate the trade out, it's 1, Ostlund, Mitts for Timo, 2 for Benning.

im disappointed savoie didn't make the team. he's certain to make it next year as an older player. every year canada and us has some big snubs. it's not a huge deal. especially with savoie's long term injury.

savoie probably makes that team if he doesn't have that shoulder injury. he absolutely makes that team had his defensive game rounded out last season. the kid is a dog and is an absolute joy to watch.
