Monahan would be a great add if the price is right for any team...if he's not one legged. - AdamFrench
of course he would, very good player when healthy.
read this week Habs could offer him a 1y deal, time to prove he's healthy, than trade him for real next year.
not a bad idea for the team, and not a bad idea for the player either. if he likes it here of course.
I think, with all of the injuries this year and last, coupled with the fact that we have players going day-to-day for weeks on end…..there should be an extensive audit done on the medical staff for the Habs. This isn’t right, normal or a way to manage players’ health in the short and/or long term.

I agree there's probably been some cases that were poorly managed, but we also have to consider where the team is at... I bet a lot of guys would've been back quicker had the habs been competing for a playoff spot, but under these circumstances there's no reason whatsoever to rush anyone.

The crazy condensed schedule doesn't help either ... reduce the number of games and spread them out more over the season.
The damn Cup is awarded in June when it's hot outside ... they should end the season a month earlier.

Injuries happen.
Not much you can do for some of these.
Part of that can be controlled to an extent with proper training, education, etc... which most NHL players should know by now. But there is an onus n the players and the team to ensure all players are physically ready to play.
I think HuGo have invested / built out these areas since coming on board.
But players go out and do dumb poop too - can't blame management for like when a Byron decides to go get punched in the face, etc...
The real issue is what the Habs are doing once a player gets injured. There is a lot of fair criticism over the handling of injured players. Organizationally, that needs to be addressed.

That’s a good point BUT there’s a lot that’s about hockey or team sport culture i mean who hasnt heard the “come on dont let the team down, play through pain u can do it”, by the time you’re a pro that’s just there in your mind and it’s normal to play through pain. Price said it: it’s the price you pay for playing through pain (your body not being able to cope anymore). These guys beed to be protected from themselves, Hughes said it
I think the all star break and then the week+ off periods each teams get during the season have forced the schedule to be compressed in other areas.
I am not sure if the extended time off makes things better or worse. - Mashadar
The allstar break is almost moot when all teams and players go right back to playing 4 games a week and beginning the playoff stretch. Players never used to need a break. It seems like 6 of one and a half a dozen of an another. Really doesn’t make a difference in the long run.

Excellent response Karine!! And I love that quote as the players are looking out for today and not necessarily the longevity of their career. Look at Gally, what is he? 30 years old? And pretty much done already?
EDIT: I wish that was in place when I played! I have no knees left and down to 1 hip from goaltending and taking Chris Pronger slap shots off of my bare knees as the pads didn’t have those fancy protectors back then! Lol

Well yeah but it’s normal in team sports i think. I was a handball goalie when i was a teen and my coach played the guilt trip card so much, “come on if you don’t play we’re done we don’t have another goalie”, by the time i turned 22 i had 4 knee operations… i imagine there’s a similar culture in hockey

I edited my response too early and agree with you! I was pressured because I was the starter and our backup was like wet tissue paper. Lol

there aren't hundreds of Monahan-type players out there though, and it's not that risky since the team trading for him wouldn't lose a high pick if he's injured again in the first round for example. - Pat1993
