Well, this definitely takes the Leafs out of the Kane sweepstakes. At least that talk can end now.

Dubas and the leafs have 4.4 in deadline space after this trade according to Capfriendly. They have the space to make a move for a decent dman aside from a first round pick this year.
- Aaron_85

4.4 in LTIR salary pool (click over the blue link beside the $$).

Once Murray is back they'll be back to ~1M with a full 23 man roster.

Depth at center rocks. Centers can play wing. Very few wingers can play center.
Kept the team intact (so far).

Man alive! The Dubas burning the midnight oil eh. Well done in my opinion - fantastic move.

ROR AT $1.8 & Acciari for not top prospects and only 1 real pick of consequence and it wont even be a top half 1st rd.

Just the instant depth with the adds. And still have assets and space for more is awesome. If the late 1st rd was the price to pay to add like that in areas you needed (2nd line & physical egg beater bottom 6) you do that all day considering where this team is present day - Win Now

Good on ya Leaf’s fans…I’m not even a fan of The Dubas but credit where it’s due. And for the talk of what he said regarding not giving up a prospect like Knies for rental or a 1st rd:

- again to get ror at that cap hit is well worth the pick (that may or may eventually be good 4 yrs down the line) and Acciari

- he didn’t give a top prospect

Question: when is ROR back from injury? Thought I read he had resumed skating?

As usual Dubas was a day late and a dollar short.

You go out and spend your pile of picks for a guy who is -23 having the worst season of his career and everybody is calling that a home run? What the (frank) kind of hopeium are you smoking Dubas?

When you look at what the Islanders gave up to get Horvat, the Leafs got the wrong guy, even as a rental. If he was at least solid defensively and weak offensively, you could make the case he fills a role but both his offense and defense are both in steep decline. I think the Leafs paid heavily for past performance instead of getting somebody at their peak ability.

Acciari looks like a good bottom 6 player but O'Reilly has looked terribly over the hill this year and it's going to take a miracle to get him to be worth a 1st round pick considering all the other options available.

The hope is he turns it around and stays healthy.
If he does, good add. I didnt want to burn a 1st + on ROR but dubas got 75% retained and 2 other players. One of which is what the leafs needed.
So we'll see...hope it all works out.
Should be fun

I know what the hope is I just think it's a dumb gamble to take hoping for that much at that price. You can get a 3rd line C for a lot less than a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

If he was going to blow his load of picks like that, he was better off getting a player in his prime or a RHD to play with Rielly.

A player in that kind of steep decline who you're "hoping" plays good hockey again shouldn't cost that much. I'd be saying the same thing if they spend that on Patrick Kane or anybody else over 30 having that kind of sub par year.

Not a huge fan of giving up all those picks, but ROR is a team captain and a very good 3C. Wonder if there is another move to be made.

Bo Horvat was perfectly available for weeks and months before hand and Dubas was sleeping at the wheel.

Parayko might have been available for that price, Chychrun and we'll see who else gets moved in the coming days and weeks. Guys with a long term contracts and under 30 are available all the time and the price the Leafs paid for a rental that you have to HOPE plays well just isn't a good gamble in my book.

I know I blamed Dubas earlier but the more I think about it, this trade seems more like Shanahan reaching over Dubas and making this move. If it doesn't work out, Dubas gets blamed and no extension after doing a 180 on a "no rental" speech recently.

Got RoR for a 1.8m cap hit. Not getting horvat for that and parayko still has 4 years at $6m+.
Dubie got 3 players in the deal...not bad

Is he still a very good 3C or did he USE TO BE a very good 3C? He has as many goals as Jarnkrok, he's -24 and been on the ice for 50 goals against this year. His foot speed has never been all that great and he barely hits or blocks shots anymore. Does he fit the way the Leafs play?

He wins FOs but other than that, I don't see how good he is anymore.

I agree

Would have rather paid another 2nd and a better prospect to get Meier..

Decide between Nylander and Meier in the off-season.

Trade and get picks back you lost.

Horvat cost the Islanders 4.125 AAV this year as a rental. Dump Kerfoot and the money is the same. Dump Muzzin and an extension is possible too. And he's on pace for 50 goals, in his prime, plays C, wins FOs. Having a 1.8 cap hit means next to nothing at the end of the season. I'd rather pay a high price and get a guy in his prime than pay a premium to hope a player goes back to playing like he did 3 years ago.

Problem with Meier is that stupid QO at 10+ million. He could refuse to sign anything and just become a UFA. But if the hope is to get a player in his prime as a rental, yeah, he's definitely a better option.

Yes exactly!

He did this last year... got an older washed up player out of his prime for a 1st... same poop different year 😂

Out of everyone available you strike early.. and dump it into a -21 player that’s coming off injury.

Better hope this works or it’s your job budd
