So, in one sense, this deal was a vote of confidence for the blue line, as currently constructed. Either Justin Holl or Timothy Liljegren will be getting top-four minutes. Either Rasmus Sandin or Conor Timmins will be getting playoff games.

An interesting tidbit from Mirtle. Kind of scary..

Don’t see it that way. He didn’t have any protection. Armstrong said he’d try to accommodate him. If Dubas (frank)ed with that there’d be no deal and he’d just look like a Richard.

Ya, the Blues 'working with' RoR doesn't mean they'll bend over when they have total control. I'm sure it was more like "look, these are the offers ..if TO gets there we will make the right choice for you and your family".

Right?!
There’s such narrow minded, pessimistic finality to some Leaf fans thinking.
I guess Leafs history could influence that type of perception.
If the Leafs won a cup, I think some Leaf fans would miss the agony of losing.

Not to my knowledge... just found that interesting on the heels of the deal. Mirtle seems as though he's pretty plugged in.

When did Kuch start his therapeutic return to work rehab? Might be time to disclose the Muzzy Miracle.

He should be fired if he’s stopped tying to improve the team before the deadline.

Well we never knew the injury. If it was soft tissue, it’s a question of assessing the healing and strengthening of the area against the risks. If it was disks, then they were more likely looking at surgery and we would have heard something about that. My brother-in-law who was team surgeon for the Oilers said in these situations, you don’t clear or not not clear, you tell the player and the team the risks and they decide from there.

I think it basically indicates that we're not going to be able to make a significant deadline acquisition on D without draft capital. For instance a trade for Chychrun would be difficult with only prospects. The roster players moved would certainly have less value to Arizona and mostly serve to offset cap. And when your principal capital is Knies, Niemela, Robertson and Minten, you not only need a couple of those assets for cost control over the next few years, but you also will invariably overpay for any significant acquisition who isn't Chychrun.

Ya I was just playing along ....I don't really believe there's any belief he could be back this year.

I'm higher on our current 8 man D group than most but a wouldn't be against a move for a top 4 D man ...especially with some term. Would probably cost Sandin ++.

Gotta figure out if Murray's going to be there come playoff time too.

If I read CapFriendly correctly (50/50 at best) they’re short a few hundred Ks when they bring Murray off LTIR. I think they moved him from IR to LTIR just to make room for the new guys. Murray has been practicing hard and probably isn’t far from returning. I don’t see them going into the playoffs with Sammy and Woll. Murray won two Cups starting the playoffs as backup.

For sure on that.

Can't have Woll as your backup in the playoffs against the bolts.. can ya.. That seems quite risky.

Muzzin might not play but the beard will be in the starting lineup for game 1.

But Murray in means Woll out ....so they'll have about 500k in LTIR room. With 23 man roster.

they just called up Kallgren to back up tonight so CF currently factors him in too.

Could slice Benn and Anderson from the 23 man roster to get a few more bucks.

Bottom line is that (assuming Murray will be back) they are slightly better than dollar in and dollar out.
