Dont waste any 1st round or high prospect capital on ROR.

75% retained!!!!!!
😳

- mr.sir

That's the big advantage having this retained. It leaves lots of room to make a significant deal for either Meier, Gavrikov or Chychrun.

You managed to get a great player without giving up your two best prospects.

Doubt the Leafs can make many more moves since they already gave a first and a 2nd but that is some depth down the middle for sure.

I very easily trade another 1st, Minten type prospect, Holl CAP dump, and whatever else is needed, that isn't Knies, to get Chychrun.

So 28th pick? Seriously. Need to go for it now. Those picks account to absolutely nothing.
- drexel

No one guts their organization to "go for it" anymore. Not saying that's what the leafs are doing, but saying no one does it. Colorado and Tampa made significant trades... They didn't leave themselves with nothing, no one does. Florida did it, they peaked in round 2 and it immediately went backwards.

The first is totally expendable. You start toileting a cupboard of other draft picks you exhaust yourself of resources to address other areas and hit your ceiling in the now.

Im in for the first going, that makes sense. A handful of other draft picks may become excessive, because at that point you've spent 75% of your money on a melting ice cream cone when you need fries and a burger too.

It's due to salary dump. There's another shoe to drop. I'm guessing a Defenseman is coming soon. It keeps O'Reilly out of Boston and Carolina.
- PrinceLH

several shoes to drop👍

1.greedy willi and hole for poon jenner, gavrikov +👍🏿

2.giraffe and bustmus +for anderson and savard👍

3.queeb n kylie for tortz n trotz👍🏿

4th n final shoe; shanny planning the parade route then firing himself so boodrow can take over so we don’t have to wait another 56 years 👍

Agreed! It takes a first trade to set up the next trade. Hopefully, a kill shot for a top end talent. We still have the Muzzin cap money to play with, as well.

Ya I like it. Plus they got o’Reilly at 75%. Still room to make moves salary wise.

There's also some risk involved though.

He has not looked great all year in St-Louis. This being said, he's not the only one on that team who could benefit from a change of scenery.

They don’t need him to be captain or main guy. They need him for support and play guitar in the room.

I love it.

Hate to see that many draft picks out for a rental, but given the retention I anticipate one more move. Without those picks everyone can forget Bertuzzi and Chychrun, maybe Schenn and we’re done?

Jarnkrok-Tavares-Marner
Kerfoot-RoR-Engvall
Holmberg-Kampf-Acciari

Hmmmm..be nice to upgrade 2LW. But this is solid.

I would have been ok with it, had it been for a player with term. Rentals for all this feels like a big overpay.

Feel like there's more moves at forward. ZAR and Knies both see that lineup. Perhaps Kerfoot goes for a blueliner. 🤔

Didn't give up a top 10 prospect, even.

Maybe MiB had Abramov top 10, I don't know, but no one else did.

I'm assuming ZAR would get Holmberg's spot, but they're relatively interchangeable and I kinda dig it.

Can't comment on his guitar skills but he was playing 3rd line centre in St-Louis and had a terrible season.

But we're talking about a guy that was great just last year so he could easily find his game and be incredible for the Leafs to finish the year.

I feel like the deal is draft picks for ROR and Aciari, Abramov and Gaudette are nothing but the "we need to send contracts back" aspect.

Nice trade. Leafs are at the go-for-it time! I’m not going to pick it apart, just happy they made a move. O’Reilly could be a game changer if he gets and stays healthy.

So Leafers get better today … good move; at the expense of tomorrow… that’s what teams do that have a chance to win the cup.

It definitely forces the bolts hand to make a move. ROR will feast on 3rd pairing D, even if he has lost a step or so.

Leafers need to get out of the 1st round this helps to do just that.

Seems there's a 2nd, 3rd and 4th gone too.

At that point it becomes much much more.

Wouldn't say I hate it, I don't. But it's a significant pricetag at that point for a guy who has the potential to Foligno us.

- joel878

Acciari is no huge get, but he is a fantastic bottom-6 guy that adds size and a heavy game to the mix. He weighs 210, and plays like he weighs 230. He's only 5'10, if I recall correctly, but he hits and hits and hits - and will score 10-20 in a season (really closer to the 10-15; the year he hit 20, everyone was surprised at his early scoring spree and then he went super cold). ROR at the worst would give the bottom-6 complete legitimacy. If he could play up into the top-6 with JT & Marner, he would also work with that line based on his skillset. He'd have to elevate the way he's been playing this year . . .but honestly between Matthews and ROR, you have a couple of takeaway machines up there. Marner and Nylander have also been excellent this year, so we're sort of adding to our defense from the front-end.

I like this better than Foligno, but you're right - it's a big price tag in terms of basically all of our draft picks for the next forever.

If he's the third centre, he won't see a checking line. He can be the Leafs shutdown centre, in a close game. He plays a heavy game and a great faceoff man. I'd love to see the Leafs grab Lawson Crouse and put him on the 2nd or 3rd line. More size and crease presence would allow the Leafs to play the heavy game that they've needed for the last few years. Still need that one heavy duty defenseman that can play shutdown in the last minute of a one goal game. That means saying goodbye to Holl and Sandin. Rielly needs to be on our second pairing.
