O’Reilly is not washed. I read the Foligno comparisons and can’t help thinking about Pavelski’s resurgence with a new team. Won’t produce like crazy but it’s a perfect 3rd center who will be there when/if Matthews/Tavares is injured. Great pick up. |

You think?
It's really early to tell, but some of the picks look promising. Our cupboards are surprisingly bountiful if you compare them to the other big teams pushing to win. - UsernameUnknown

People who write this stuff are missing all sorts of information, like what is available, and at what cost. They also have no idea how healthy or motivated O'Rielly has been all year.
So, we hope he returns to health/form. I like it better than Foligno. - Aetherial
Foligno at his best = RoR at his worst.
If RoR, after his injury, is anything close to healthy and motivated ....this trade is awesome.
Acciari is a nice 4th line add too. Skalapy will like his thick neck. |

I'd wager he gets a lot of time in the top 6 too ...he's played a lot of LW. |

Not sure that's the right term for not liking the price of the trade.
I hated the Mrazek signing and got blasted for that too lol.
I like O'Reilly, but I consider the price to be a overpay. I also think it wasn't what the Leafs needed , they didn't fill a hole that needed to be filled
The Leafs major need was a top 6 LW, and that's not addressed, and won't be likely. |

Oh man, we really got to let the Chychrun thing go. It's not happening, and he's not that good anyways. 🤷 - joel878
He actually is petty good.
But i dont think the leafs get him. |

If you’re looking for in-depth reading on newest #LeafsForever Ryan O’Reilly, we profiled him today on @DailyFaceoff. Full breakdown of his game, scouting report and buyer beware.
Toronto appears to have paid above what we pegged as the ceiling return:

I'm not sure that's an entirely fair equivalency. First of all Giroux was having better year, but Florida gave up more than we did in terms of capital value - a 1st and Owen Tippet alone has more value than Abramov, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th - and O'Rielly with Acciari is not Giroux alone.
Am I in love with the deal? Not really - I'm not 100% convinced O'Reilly regains his form or finds his game, but I bet he brings more than Foligno did when he was here. I am hoping the two of them together add those subtle physical components we need to round out parts of the forward group.
I am guessing that every other avenue we were trying to cross started with Niemela, Knies or Minten. For those who like to gamble, they'd consider Robertson, too.

Yes. Exactly. Do you not think spending those assets helped them win? Or are you implying we should stock draft picks and prospects until we win the cup, and only then we can sell off..? |

Cupboards are empty. - Fakepartofme
Actually they aren't. Seeing Tampa and Florida, their cupboards are more empty. We still have the two Fins, Knies, Robertson, Joseph Woll, and a few other promising players. Kerfoot and Holl could be flipped for draft picks, if necessary. The Leafs are still relatively healthy on prospects. Probably about 18th out of 32 in the league. There's also College Free Agents that could be added to the prospect pool.

My exact thinking. If they can somehow get their hands on Chychrun, moving Rielly down to the second pairing, the Leafs would be solid going into the playoffs. Even a Schenn as a replacement for Holl works too. Leafs need toughness and tenacity to get out of the Atlantic. Timothy Liljegren and Mark Giordano would be a great 3rd pairing. Holl needs to be traded by the deadline. - PrinceLH
The overbidding for Chychrun must be trough the roof and I think you have better chances at getting a Ekholm type guy |

If they had addresses a top 6 left winger, I'd feel better about it. I don't think this pushes the needle for the Leafs.

The move now for RoR means that the price for Meier went higher than Dubas could go. Top prospects and multiple firsts kinda thing.
RoR at 70% is better than any of the other cloons out there. 2LW and C all wrapped up in one package with an elite playoff resume.
Health is the only question for me. I'm sure they did their homework. |

You're right that it'll likely not happen (I shan't give up hope until it actually happens, though), but so wrong in thinking he's not that good. He's very good, actually. - GreatGigInTheSky
I watch him a lot. I go to multiple games in AZ a year (mullet is even smaller than you'd think). He's more like Rielly than anything else, which makes him not what we need at all... But even as a Rielly he has so much room to grow (kind of what you'd expect of a defenceman his age).
He's offensively minded and not the greatest at it, he's incredibly mistake prone because of that mindset. His positioning is poor, his coverage is worse. He plays way smaller than his size. He is the polar opposite of the kind of defenceman the leafs need at this point. He fits a developing team where he can grow, he's not a scale tipper for a fringe contender. To pay the bloated pricetag for him at this point would be a gross miscalculation. |

He would be our best defenseman. Rielly would be better offensively and Brodie would be better defensively - but in terms of overall game, a guy like Chychrun would be a legitimate #1 defenseman. He's not uber-elite - like in the top-10, but he'd actually be in the top-20 which would be pretty sweet.
I don't think we have the assets to make that deal happen, but he's an excellent player.
