If they had addresses a top 6 left winger, I'd feel better about it. I don't think this pushes the needle for the Leafs. - Archaic
Let's see. He could be the top-6 winger, or the 2C (moving JT to 2LW) that we need. Jarnkrok back into the bottom-6 is also a massive upgrade on the bottom-6 with Acciari also added into that mix.

2 things to keep in mind -
1. You can never believe a GM-
Dubas was adamant in his last media availability that he wouldnāt flip his first-round pick in 2023 for a rental player. And now heās gone ahead and done just that.
2. The Leafs now have just two picks in the first two rounds of the next three drafts after this deal. |

The overbidding for Chychrun must be trough the roof and I think you have better chances at getting a Ekholm type guy - Not_Yan
Ekholm would be helpful. Maybe the Leafs are zeroing in on someone else that nobody sees being traded. There are some teams on the edge, that may drop out of the race in the next two weeks, then the Leafs can pounce. One last move is to get that top 4 defenseman that can play 24 minutes a night and protect the crease. It's the Leafs biggest need as of right now. Too soft on the back end. Rasmus Sandin is an NHL defenseman, but the Leafs need some size and can't afford to have two defensemen under 6' tall. Especially two under 24 years of age. Timothy Liljegren is the more stable of the two and he shoots right.

Maybe the Leafs have worked out an extension for O'Reilly before making the trade.

It would make it better, but he has been very bad this year. He's not the same player he was. I hope a trade reinvigorates him, but I'm not holding my breath. |

And they're both firsts. That's fine by me. Dubas will trade down 15 spots with his 3rd's and draft 2 guys he would have drafted in the 64 range anyway |

Oh for sure never trust what they say in media availability but, maybe dubie believes he could extend him. |

I watch him a lot. I go to multiple games in AZ a year (mullet is even smaller than you'd think). He's more like Rielly than anything else, which makes him not what we need at all... But even as a Rielly he has so much room to grow (kind of what you'd expect of a defenceman his age).
He's offensively minded and not the greatest at it, he's incredibly mistake prone because of that mindset. His positioning is poor, his coverage is worse. He plays way smaller than his size. He is the polar opposite of the kind of defenceman the leafs need at this point. He fits a developing team where he can grow, he's not a scale tipper for a fringe contender. To pay the bloated pricetag for him at this point would be a gross miscalculation. - joel878
Are their seats close together in the arena? Or do you get a lot of leg/arm room? It looks really cramped.
Yeah, most of that doesn't describe the player I watch. Or the player most scouts watch.
Personally, I'd trade most things to get him on the Leafs. And the cost would be worth it because he's got term remaining on his deal. Be even better if the Coyotes would retain some $$$, too. |

I thought about that, but it doesn't make much sense. JT is playing too well to move him. And ROR is more valuable at the center position. |

I think it's very unlikely the Leafs could beat a deal for any big player with their current assets.
Do they have enough for Meier or Chychrun? I think we know the answer is no. |

Foligno at his best = RoR at his worst.
If RoR, after his injury, is anything close to healthy and motivated ....this trade is awesome.
Acciari is a nice 4th line add too. Skalapy will like his thick neck. - The Law

I think Mayfield over Schenn.
Moreso I called Dubas making a move about now. He likes business mostly done 2 weeks in advance of the deadline.
Plus I was big on RoR. |
